#67535, "Custom turbo, T3 or 14b?"

well, ive been ready to do my turbo for a while...right now i have the manifold for the 14b on my car and the turbo setup...everything looks fine and im ready to go, but the exhaust is going to be hell to setup....well my friend is doing a t3 and he showed me some pictures and it looks like i could cut off the flange and weld a new one straight up for the t3...the thing i liked about the t3 was the exaust housing was much easier to setup....what do you think i should do...stick with my 14b and have hell with the exhaust, or alter the manifold and get a t3? which ones do you reccomend.

you already have a good turbo and the manifold you need to buy as o2 housing eliminator flange from roadrace engineering and use it to built a downpipe, also have the wastegate actuator modify

option 2 you could cut the flange of the 14b manifold that I made, use a grinder to remove as much welding as you can and weld in place a small piece of square tubing and a commercial t3 flange from roadrace engineering or JGS tools you will need to find a decent T3 turbo turbo with his o2 housing

personnaly I was and still am a strong believer of the T3 style setup
for custom turbo system because it's easier, the selection of turbos is good and it looks more like a factory option

ok, i think you're talking about this flange
i still believe in the 14b, but i was worried about the downpipe... has anyone done this, what pieces did you use...i have gilee8's picture, but im not completely sure how he is attaching it to the downpipe...i have the wastegate actuator i think...that doesnt seem that hard.... is the 14b as efficient as the t3? the 14b can handle over 20psi right? i was only going to be running maybe 18psi...but just incase..... any other opinions? thanks

OK, if I was your I'd run the 14b for now... then upgrade to a 16G at some point in the future...
And you could run an 14b at 20psi maybe... but it's way outside of the efficiency range.

I have a 16G setup... I took a flange that I made similar to the one pictured above... and the first stage I had a section of pipe that curved down to another flange that bolted t the stock downpipe...

The wastegate was dumping to atmosphere... but then after that I finished it by adding another pipe that blends into the section leading to the downpipe... kinda looks a lot like a stock DSM O2 housing...

I'll take some pics this weekend... gotta get some new batteries for the digital camera first...

IMO a 14b or less is insufficient for anything other than a stock sporty car. With the amount of porting effort you need to do to get it up to its full potential, the price difference for a T3 is minor. Go big I say.

You could probably save yourself some pain by selling off the turbo and mani together, and just starting over with a T3 mani and turbo that are already flanged correctly. No sense hacking up alains pieces emoji

im sticking with my 14b and manifold.... either way i would have to make a downpipe, the 14b will just be a little bit harder to do.... but i have complete faith in the 14b and i can easily upgrade to the 16g like said above.... thanks guys, and any pictures you can get will help a lot....
