i believe i am having problems with my turbonetics delta wastegate ... i think it is flapping around ... it makes an odd flapping noise when the rpms hit around 2-3000. sometimes the turbo spools up and sometimes it doesnt and when it does it builds very little boost (around 2-3psi) and it always makes this noise. how do i fix this? anybody else had this problem before? thanks guys and please help me out. any suggestions out there?

I've had an internal wastegate make "flapping" noises before if there wasn;t enough tension... but not sure about an external wastegate.

I'd be more suspicious of the way the vaccum lines are hooked up to the wastegate...

Have you checked for boost leaks?

dude...i have told you 1,000,000 times that you have a leak..thats what it is..the ONLY way the deltagate is gonna flap is if by some miracle the spring inside broke...take it off and try and push it with your hand..its gonna take some force to get it to move...you HAVE A BOOST LEAK...period.

One way of doing it is to rig up a piece of pipe that you can connect to yur turbo inlet... then feed it with regulated compressed air... something like 15-20 psi... Now you want to feed air into your intake system and then check for leaks... its as easy as that.

You should hold the throttle open 100% while you do this also... that way you'll check all your vaccum lines...

ok do you think this would work ... get the same size of the turbo piping with the air filter on it in some PVC pipe with one end open and the other closed. get a cheap bicycle tube from like kmart and cut off the air valve, drill a hole in the end of the pvc pipe, put the tire valve through the inside and face it out, seal around the valve with some gasket silicone or hot glue and then clamp the coupling down to teh side of turbo and feed in 10-15psi through an air compressor? i think that would work...do you guys? also, should i do this with the car running at a idle? and do you think this will make the noise that i am hearing when driving if this is a boost leak? even though the stock internals can only hold like 8psi, with the car running, is it going to be safe putting 10-15psi of air through the turbo? it wont mess up my motor will it at all? i will spray some soapy water around the whole wastegate, turbo, BOV, and intercooler couplings and see if i get any bubbles but do you think this will mess up the motor since im putting alot of air through it or am i imagining the worst? thanks guys, youve been an excellant help with this and i will try it tomrrow after work after i hear back from you guys! mike

Lol, if you seal up the turbo inlet how is the car going to run? engines need air to run. I think you should sell the turbo kit and take it to a mechanic for service. The boost leak tester seems to be above your level of mechanical expertise.

Ummm... you would d it with the car off!!!

Your just checking for leaks... thats why you generate a pressure in the air intake system.... to check for leaks!!!

Oh boy...

Put it somewhere in the intercooler piping... take a section out... and put in your PVC setup... Or a good place would be the BOV flange... mount it there.

Just remember to seal off the turbo inlet of air will leak out there...

hey guys i made the boost leak tester and i THINK i may have found the leak ... when i replaced the intake manifold with a port/polished one, when i took off the PCV valve, it broke in the hose and i got a new PCV valve and had to get a little bit bigger hose for it and when i pumped air into the side of the turbo, air was coming out of the PCV hose ... do you guys think this would be possible for the boost leak to be coming from this hose from the intake manifold? thanks and please reply asap! thanks for all your help and i HOPE this is where i was leaking boost if possible! PLEASE REPLY! mike

okay well i finally drove around the block and now it doesnt make the flap noise liek it did before, but it still isnt building boost and i cant hear the BOV anymore as i could barely before. i had tightened up the screw on the top of the blitz BOV before i drove ... do you guys think that since i tightened it up that tahts why it isnt working/boosting? thanks guys, please reply - mike

welp i think i know why after i fixed the leak why im still not boosting ... i think the turbo is shot ... i have some scratches on the inside part of the intake side of the turbo where the spool is ... the weird thing is that it spools sometimes and sometimes it doesnt ... but when i turn the car off, after the turbo timer shuts off, you can hear what i belive to be the bearings rolling around or something ... ill have to take it off thursday and see whats up. how do i check to know if the turbo is blown or not? just by shaking it and hearing bearings rolling around ... also, what could cause the turbo be blow out like this if it did? no oil getting to it ot what, i dont understand? if it is blown, its going back to turbonetics becase its done this since day and i know everyone was hooked up right .... PLLLLLLLEEEEEEASE HELP!

Easy test for the bearings... grad hold of the compressor wheel with your fingers... and see how much movement you can feel in the shaft...

Check for both side to side movement and end to end movement...

well what exactly would cause the turbo to blow like this? i can move the compressor kinda much, like back n forth a little bit. anyway, what would cause this? no oil or something? i have only had the turbo on the car for like 2 weeks of driving and it was making noises from day 1. i will send it back to turbonetics if i can if something was wrong with it since i swear everything was hooked up correctly if just maybe it wasnt getting enough oil. anyway guys, whats some cases of which would blow out a turbo? thanks a ton - mike

ok guys i took off the turbo today and took off the oil return adapter that the oil return hose goes on and inside the turbo you can see some oil so i belive that the turbo was getting oil. im not for sure if the turbo is blown because usually if its blown you can shake the turbo and hear the bearings rolling around in it if it was blown and i cant hear anything inside. the turbine side had some scratches around the turbine from what i dont know but it doesnt seem like there is a TON of shaft play so im not so certain if its blown. can anyone tell me what they think i should do or how to check to make sure its blown for sure before i send it back to turbonetics and wait 2 months for another one. how do you check to see if its done? like i said, you cant hear any bearings rolling around in side of it. is there anything else that would casue the turbo to only spool sometimes and not build boost besides a boost leak? thnaks and please get back to me asap! if anyone wants to see a pic of the turbine/compressor, please drop you email address in here and ill send it to see what you think! thanks alot!

damn dude now your starting to piss me off...NO YOU CANNOT HEAR THE BEARINGS RATTLING AROUND INSIDE OF A BLOWN TURBO...unless by some insane amount of destruction you managed to shatter a bearing..which you DID NOT DO. FOR THE LAST DAMN TIME YOUr TURBO IS IS BLOWN. there are not just "some scratches" the walls of the compressor housing and turbine housing have deep pits in them. ALSO, all of the blades on BOTH the turbine and compressor wheels are bent, they are NO GOOD. send the freaking thing back to turbonetics and STOP WASTING board usage when i blatantly tell you what is wrong.
