#67303, "Leaking BOOST? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!"

I have the star stage 2 turbo kit w/ fmic and i am using the blitz supersound BOV ... well when the car starts to boost, around 3000rpm in any gear, i am getting this real funky noise ... its almost like something is flapping around or something. sometimes the turbo will spool up and sometimes it wont, and went it doesnt, this noise will start before 3000rpm ... someone said i could be leaking boost but all the couplings are tight to the intercooler and everything. someone else also said i should adjust the screw on the top of the BOV and i tightened it up some but it snowed like hell here in ohio and havent got to drive it yet since i have done that. also, the other day when driving, my oil light on the dash flickered on for a quick second and i pulled over immediately and my oil was full ... could my oil pressure switch/sending unit be bad and maybe the turbo isnt getting enough oil and thats what the sound is from? i took off the intake pipe from side of turbo and there wasnt any oil on the shaft and there was very little shaft play ... probably the same amount of play as when i got it from star. PLEASE HELP GUYS, I DONT KNOW WHAT THIS IS COMING FROM OR WHATS CAUSING IT! any suggestions or has anyone else had this noise/problem? when it does boost though, it only hits like 2-3psi. thanks guys and please help!

You probably have a boost leak.

Use the search function to learn how to built a boost leak tester.

and boost leaks dont only occur at the couplings, you may have a cracked pipe (NOT a crack pipe) somewhere, make a boost leak tester, its a cakewalk

hey guys i was looking for forums to see if anyone else has had this problem as well and i read something that might be along the lines of what i am experiencing ... it said something about the wastegate might be flapping around ... maybe it isnt opening or closing or something like that ... how can i check to see if the wastegate is making this "flap" noise? the hose that goes from the side of wastegate is connected to the side of turbo and the vac port on top of wastegate is open ... what should i do?? thanks guys - mike

if i was leaking somewhere, with the car running at idle, would i be able to feel around or spray soapy water around all the i/c couplings, throttle body, vac hoses, and BOV and would i see the leak? or is not considered to be a 'boost' leak? thanks guys, please keep helping!

No, because there is no boost at idle.

OMG dude, give me your turbo kit....seriously. You are not ready for it young padawan.

You take a PVC endcap, drill a hole in it, put a valve stem into it, seal that down with epoxy, then place the rig on the intake portion of your turbo and hold it down with a silicone coupler. Then put a pump onto the valve stem and pump up the pressure to find a leak.

And if you didn't figure it out before, let the epoxy dry before you attempt this.
