#66559, "Whats the deal with the oil??"

straight to the point...i've had this turbo since december, its brand spankin new from HRC. I took it out of the bag today, and this is what i found!! When i first got it i took it out to examine it and this definetly wasnt there. Any thoughts on this??? The oil seems to be in the weirdest places...and doesnt seem to be leaking from anywhere, just on the outside surface of the turbo.

In pics 4&5, I noticed it's missing a plug. Bearing oil may have leaked from there emoji There should only be a threaded oil inlet by itself and an oil drain opening, but (from memory) I'm quite sure the two openings in pics 4&5 should be plugged.

thanks for replying man. From what i see only one of the holes is plugged(the white one). And i checked it closely, and couldnt see a drip of oil coming from the holes. Any other idea's? Should more than one hole be plugged?

it just looks like one of the plugs fell out and the oil followed. It doesnt look like a big deal. Can you wipe all the oil off?

No sir, do not plug that hole!!!! If you want an oil return line!

That is how mine is also. I have no idea about the oil though. Thats wierd. Was it sitting on oil and just seaped through the bag?

They prob just used a light coat of oil on the turbo so it doesn't rust. The oil eventually will drain off the turbo and collect all over the packaging..thats my best guess

The oil return opening is 180 degrees opposite of the oil inlet in the bottom, which is on the top; oil return points down by the wastegaste actuator. The HRC turbo oil return should look something like this:

That definately looks like used motor oil. It's from something else IMO.

You are right they have to be 180degrees. The last t4 I had, used the fitting like you described. This turbo has 1/4 threads on both the internal and external oil ports. It also has ports for water cooling.
