Well...

Like almost all of us, when we first got our turbo kits, and we first started to install them, we all came on the board to see how far you can push your with boost...I have read so much in the past 3 weeks im about done with everything I could possibly read...so here it is....

Some people with LITTLE proper tuning (bigger head gasket, raise your octane) Have run up to 13 psi on STOCK internals. Most of us would say your crazy, but our cars are much stronger then we think…Anyways, it comes down to the car and the driver, there is not certain, hell you could be boosting 6 psi and blow up….Basically, be smart…

When you drive it every day, keep it at 5-6 psi, when you go to the track and race, turn the shit up to 10psi, get higher octane, or what have you. That boost is somewhat safe… Then again, when modding there is NO SAFE…You could blow up, and when you boost up at 10psi you are just taking a BIGGER risk, not to say you WILL blow up, or that you probably will blow up, it’s a bigger chance…

You could blow up no matter what, it’s a risk you take when boosting, and when you raise it on stock internals, and you are accepting a BIGGER risk

So here what I would like people to do (if you could, please)…

JUST post you BOOST level you rain Daily, at the track, and for how long boosted it for…That’s it, nothing more…I want to make a huge reference for people to see what boost people have done and for how long, that was they can look and decide for THEM SELFS...Like I did

Ill start by posting my homie johns turbo’d RS

Just follow this format…

1. John’s RS-T – Daily, 6 PSI – Track, 9 PSI- 1 year strong, and still going!

Thanks to anyone who participates

Ran up to 9 psi safely for quite some time. Ran 11 psi and cracked a ring land. The motor had PLENTY of fuel, 93 octane, low EGT's, and NO detonation when this happened. Take it for what its worth. YOu start playing over 10 psi with a stock motor, be prepared to pay.

you also gotta know that the stock connecting rods have a limitation as well, even if you have the perfect A/F ratio, EGT's and racegas, you never know how much stress they can take. once those go, it's more of a headache to repair if they bust through your block or damage your crank or other things down there. there's someone here that has gone 15psi with no problems, but he's pushing it. if you don't plan on going passed 12psi, well then maybe it'll be ok for you, but passed that level, it's a risk.

* Turbo kit installed with 63K miles on engine.

* I ran HRC's stage 2 at 8 psi for ~6 months w/o any problem. At this time, I hit the track about 4-5 times that season.

* Installed a S-AFC & 370cc injectors, up the boost to ~10-11 for two weeks, then the ring lands cracked. Sufficient fuel, no signs of detonation; low EGT and a/f of .94V

* Rebuilt engine with 8.8:1 pistons, Eagle rods; Accel DFI w/625cc injectors; 16G turbo. Been boosting 15 psi daily for ~17,000 miles; occasional 18-20 psi runs on pump gas; been to the track only twice with that setup; quite a few highway runs. With everything still the same, I've been running the S-20G setup for ~5000 miles.

* With a FEW exceptions, I believe our ring lands will more than likely crack over 10+ psi, even with sufficient fuel (just my .02)

1. John’s RS-T – Daily, 6 PSI – Track, 9 PSI- 1 year strong, and still going!

2. Kurt's GS-T - Stock Engine, 8 PSI, 1 Year (Replaced with built motor, nothing wrong with block (210 psi across all cylinders), just wanted more boost) - Built Engine, 10 PSI, 5 months (waiting for weather to get better and turn up the boost)

3. Justin RST- 6 months(12,000 miles) of abuse at 8psi, many spikes to 10-11psi...93 octane, stock injectors, base FMU, Motor still in great shape!

4. Extremes’ RS-T – 9 psi daily, for a while and motor was ok. Ran 11 psi then cracked a ring land

5. Jsupetran’s RS-T- 5 psi daily, nothing more – after many 350 mile trips from school to home, still going strong!

6. Lee's RS-T: 19 or 10 psi daily. Depending on what level I set the two stage boost controller to. Built motor with Wiseco pistons

7. Dark Reality RS-T - Star Stage 2: Daily 8psi-10psi, no problems till upgraded to 36lb injectors and 12,000mi of boosting, then cracked piston. forced rebuild-12 psi daily- till 50lb injector upgrade-18-20psi daily. no problems yet. currently fuel system change in progress

8. Thomas RST Star Stage II-little over a year at 7 pounds, just turned it up to 8.5 =) 5,000 miles over due for a timing belt change and no runs at the track

10. RyaN95i4 -
Pump gas: 1.5 yrs at 8-10psi then 6months at 12psi (daily)
Pump gas + xylene: 15psi (intermittenly throughout the first 2 years, also saw rare spikes to 18-20psi)

Car was daily driven, and ALWAYS driven hard -- have yet to meet anyone who drove their car as hard as often as I do. During this time, motor had never been opened. Fuel setup: 30lb injectors, SFMU, walbro. s16g w/ FMIC.

Eventually cracked a ringland after 2 years of abuse (and 3/4 cylinders still had perfect compression). Piston failure was due to fatigue, not detonation.

Now, car runs 18psi daily: built motor + 8inj setup.

I think most have read the recent thread on mine, but..

11.) 12-14psi on stock bottom end. HRC stage 2, 30lb inj. 20,000 miles of abuse, compression was still good but could have gone at any time..
next was, JE 8.8:1/Crower rod combo.. I put roughly 12,000 miles of HARD miles then developed blow-by.
now, in the middle of a custom CP 2.2l set-up

With everything I have read in this forum and experience with my car. I can say that is not the psi that kill your engine. Is the HP levels that the engine can winstand. With the HRC kit and the Star kit at 10 psi, you will getting the engine at its limits of 275 hp. This will be able to get you (as a good driver) into the 13's. If you go over 10 psi, you will be over the 275 hp, the pistons ring lands and connecting rods would be in danger.

I have a smaller turbo, Mitsubishi TEO4H (similar to T-25) and stock internals, and I was able to run 12 psi daily and sometimes 13-15 psi spikes. I have 8 injector setup with HKS AIC and running rich. The only problem I had, was that I didn't change the oil pump on my rebuild engine. The compression was well over 200 all across. The crankshaft rear main bearing failed. There were no signs of damage on the pistons or pistons ring lands, nor the rods.

Boost will depend on the type of turbocharge you are running. 16G(HRC) and T3/T4(Star) don't go over 10 psi. Maybe once in a while but very rich. If you have a T-25 or similar turbocharger you can hit the 12 psi daily and 15 psi very rich. All comes down to good monitoring of engine gauges and good fuel delivery.

I will be finishing the engine this week. So I will be posting some pictures later.

Stock Rebuild Block, Custom Turbo Kit: Custom 3" Downpipe, TEO4H Turbocharger : 10-12 psi, Starion Intercooler, Custom IC Piping, HKS By-pass, HKS AIC, (4) 330 cc extra injectors, Autometer Gauges

I ran 7 lbs of boost for a year on stock internals with no problem. Once I had a built spare motor, I turned the boost up to 13 psi. It held 13 psi for 2 weeks before it went. When it went, i cracked 3 piston ring lands but the car still ran.

After switching to forged internals, I run 17 psi daily and 24 psi track. It's been running great like this for over a 1 1/2 years now.

Some guys who don't post a lot on here but are still on the stock bottom end and are on 5-8 psi are Robotechsm, and phrenzy. Both have been boosted for at least 2 years running low boost. Ironically, you don't see them post since they aren't having problems. Even I don't really post questions here; I to answer question and have fun at the pits emoji.

Heh. I would be happy with a 12.999 at 22 psi. I could run 24 psi, but it's pointless because that's out the the 16g's efficiency range.

--Car was daily driven, and ALWAYS driven hard -- have yet to meet anyone who drove their car as hard as often as I do. During this time, motor had never been opened. Fuel setup: 30lb injectors, SFMU, walbro. s16g w/ FMIC.--

No, I have never even pulled a 14 second pass off in this car. I suck at draging and my car always has issues. It's been great lately and it's tuned up to teh maximum, so come April 3rd I should be able to make a decent pass. I have slicks, but I have not used them yet.

I went stage 4 from day one. I bought and extra motor with a spun rod bearing from 200 bucks. I purchased an extra crank from a guy on here, ordered eagle rods, je pistons and rings, all the proper gaskets and pumps. The head was heavily ported as was the intake mani, the block bored .020 over, crank knife edged . Ordered 1 Star Turbo Kit (stage 2), the whole Eic setup w/ fms #30's as secondaries and basically replicated corbins fuel setup w/ the same fpr and stuff. I sent my tranny to john sheperd for some tlc and a phantom grip. Ordered all the necessary guages, 17" rims, Hks Evc Ez boost controller, msd dis2 programmable w/ tach adapter and a blitz fatt turbo timer. Since then i've ordered the Fast Fab tubular mani, polished tial 38mm wg, ditched the 3" exhuast for a QTEC cutout and stock sleeper exhaust. My car has never seen less than 17psi daily, the only time I run under 10 is in first gear at the track to get traction. On your average day I run 94 oct and 19-20 psi on high setting. This is how it should be done people. emoji
