Remove the power to the pump, start your car, let it run until it dies from fuel starvation.

When I changed my fuel pump and filter, I opened the fuel cap, yanked the fuel pump relay, and then ran the car. It was never an issue of pressure, but more like a drip. Relieve the pressure from the fuel filter area 1st that way you wont have any fuel issues inside the car. Its not a hard install. When I did mine I also did the fuel pump rewire since I knew i was going to be in that area.
