is the melling oil pump really necessary? or is it just a suggestion? i have a brand new one and would much rather just use that one instead of buying one....thanks doug

from your question I'm guessing the one you have is a new "stock" pump.. I would think that the reason the Melling unit is recommended or used is because it can move more volume effectively. Just my thought.. but when I ordered my 2.2l I didn't question it.

Actually I think it's the same as the stocker, just less expensive. I'm not sure, so you can take that with a grain of salt. But either pump in proper operating condition will supply enough oil pressure to keep the motor lubed. Mabye it has a better design that will hold pressure in the higher RPM's.

YOu know you can rebuild the stock pump for around 45-50 bucks, getting the parts from the dodge dealer? Thats what i did, and it works great. There really is not much to the pump. The only parts you need is the 2 metal rotors, the rotor cover, relief spring, and relief plunger. Thats it. Brand new pump. Thats every single part the pump is made out of. I may be able to find the part numbers if ya want.
