My cousin knows this guy in Colorado who just bought an Evo and dumped like 10k into it within the first month of ownership. One thing that he said he had and I am curious about is a custom device he had for spooling the turbo up. I brought it up in another post when people were talking about setting the BOV off while sitting still, but that is another post. Anyways, I guess he had a switch hooked up to either nitrous or co2 so it would spool the turbo up before he launched to create boost without having the turbo lag while building rpms off the launch. Could this really be done and would it be worth customizing the turbo to take off those few moments it takes to spool up and create boost? Just wondering

2 ways to spool a turbo like that. Injecting a gas into the exhaust housing (kills the turbo VERY quickly) or using a stutter box. The stutter box method would only build about 5-6psi on my HRC kitted Eclipse, but that was more than enough to make bad first gear traction even worse.. If this guy is spinning the turbo up by turning the exhaust housing into a combustion chamber, I hope he access to lots of turbo rebuild parts cause he's gonna need them. WRC turbos are set up like this (called ANTI-LAG) and get rebuilt after every event.
Of course the only practicle reason for doing this on a street car is for the bling factor. Someone has more money than brains.

Yeah, he's probably using the stutter box feature on an aftermarket ignition, or possibly DSMlink. You can put those on the Evo ECU's or drop in an EEPROM, can't you Greg?
Anyway, what color is your cousin's Evo? Where does he live? There were 6 Evo's (one in each color) at the dyno competition at MAC Autosports a couple of weeks ago, so I might have seen it.

Nah, my cousin doesn't have the Evo, he talked to some guy who did have one, it was black with some gold trim, I think. My cousin drives a pearl white 96 GS and a silver 99 GS. He lives in Grand Junction off of 32 road from I-70.
