#6531, "HRC Neon proves the point...nines on the first passes!"

Tuesday night test and tune, Route 66 Raceway, Joliet, Il, 6-19-01:

The Team HRC 420A Neon, piloted by Len Ayala, runs 9.85 seconds @ 148.25 MPH first time out this year!

Using the same HRC Stage V Turbosystem with Nitrous combo that propelled this car to 10.55 seconds @ 140 in street trim, Len pulled off some magnificient passes under marginal conditions. With a slippery track and hot, humid weather, the HRC Team really showed its stuff! This is also the first ever 20G turbo equipped car to run in the nine second zone.

The best part is that this is an off-the-shelf, bolt on turbokit, combined with a mostly stock drivetrain. The only non-stock parts in the engine are the pistons and rods. The significant changes to the car from last season are its conversion to pure drag-only use, with a weight reduction of 400 lbs.

We will attempt to run the car one more time in this configuration, as we are sure that with better traction and cooler weather, we can further improve upon the first-ever nine second bolt-on turbosystem.

Future plans include a new engine and transmission combo that will most definitely be a custom built turbosystem setup, as the gloves must come off to compete with the Hondas in the FWD classes. But for now, the numbers attained prove once again that our system technology is unsurpassed in terms of potential and ongoing development. Nine second passes on a bolt-on turbokit and mostly stock engine were unheard of...until now!

I love it! I own a Neon and an Eclipse... if I get told they are slow. I can just point them a couple towns over and tell then to try and keep up with Bill!
