#65261, "looking for info"

while looking into rebuilding, i came across at howell's site the long rod kit. it is on sale for the same price as the regular kit. anyone heard of or had any experience with this kit? i'm just looking for some info in making a decision on what to get. i'm looking at running 15 psi regularly and maybe 20 at the track, if that helps or means anything.

also another question. i have been reading quite a bit about shot peening the stock rods. who would do this? machine shop? and i know a guy is ruuning 19psi on them, but how safe is it? cause for now just to get the car up and running i might just replace the pistons and then work on fully building another block. let me know.

Shot-peening stock rods,IMO, is just a band aid. itll keep it from bleeding real quickly, but if you dont get it stitched up(aftermarket rods) it wont heal. Our factory rods are tiny. and a set of Eagles is just a little over 300 bucks. A good, honest rod shot-peening will cost you almost that much.

i just took mine to the engine shop and had quite a few talks with him about this. He is a fan of the long rod engine, he said in his experience it significantly increased the amount of low end torque due to longer dwell time and slower piston speeds and it more stable as well due to smaller rod angles. After showing him howells kit he said he could get me the stuff cheaper and so far he found the rods which howell sells for 350 he gets for 275 but he said he will get back to me tomorrow on the pistons. so i am gonna give the long rod a try, i can use all the low end torque i can being auto. i am also shooting for 15psi.

umm i doubt that because he buys through a wholesale man and only orders parts unless he is doin the machining and assembly work. but i would think any engine builder would be able to do this for you because they all get parts through wholesale distributors
