#65178, "How do I run the stock fuel filter with the SFMU?"

So do I just use some fuel hose to connect the filter to the hardline going to the rail? thanks

i believe on the 96, your fuel filter is near the passenger side rear tire. don't put it up by the fuel rail.

You don't connect the SFMU to the fuel feed line at all, and has nothing to do with the fuel filter. Your SFMU needs to go inline with the fuel return line. If you have your stock fuel filter in the engine bay, on the firewall, you already have the return line there for you to use. If your fuel filter is back by the rear passenger tire, you will need to run a return line from the SFMU outlet to the gas tank. If your filter is back by the tire, the return line in this setup comes right off the fuel filter outlet and to the top of the tank. This is why you need to run a return line with this type of fuel system setup. If this is your setup, DON'T put the SFMU under the car or back by the stock filter, that is just being lazy, and is ghetto..do it right. I know this is for 97+ model years, but i don't remember if the 96's have the filter by the firewall or back by the tire..I guess I can give more specific answers on how to hook it up if I know where exactly your filter is located.

Mine is a 97(with fuel filter at rear tire). i removed the factory fuel filter(its attached to the FPR) and just used a universal in-line filter. to re-use the fastory fuel filter on this setup, you would need a MM-to-barb or AN fitting on each end of it, to connect you SS fuel line to. I couldnt find the correct fitting anywhere around here, so i just use a smaller brass looking universal inline filter from Autozone(make sure its for Fuel Injected cars)and i change it every oil change.

You should never use a universal inline filter. Most of the time they are designed for our cars even at a stock level.

Well I am putting the SMFU in the engine bay, running it to the test port and a return line back to the tank. All I'm gonna do is take out the FPR since my SFMU will adjust idle and re-use the stock fuel filter. So I'm gonna run a line from the Filter - Hardline(Fuel Supply), instead of Filter - FPR - Hardline.

Thats right. What we HRC guys do, is take the banjo fitting that went into the stock FPR, the feed line up to the rail, is to push up that fitting as far up the hard line as you can, then take a rubber hose and double clamp it to the hard line. Then, just get the right size fitting with a hose barb on one end, that will screw right into your stock fuel filter outlet. I think it was mentioned above..

I'm not 100% positive, but I think its a 3/8 NPT to male hose barb fitting..should be able to find one at a hardware store...

Why should we not use a universal filter again?

the fitting you need is 12mm Fine thread-to-3/8" Hose Barb. Found it at Pep Boys.

There is a way easier way to do this guys. This is what we did on Gorkoracing's car. Take off the fuel filter/stock fuel pressure regulator assembly from the car. Remove the stock fuel pressure regulator from the assembly. Put an o-ring on a short bolt and thread it back into the hole the stock FPR came out of. Now your stock return line that was connected to the stock FPR is dangling free. Put the S-FMU in the engine bay, run a line off of the test port on the fuel rail to the S-FMU. Run a line from the S-FMU back to the tank where the stock return line went in. This allows you to keep your stock fuel filter in place, and not have any janky installation. This is for the 96+ models that have the fuel filter by the tank of course.

Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

So then if you plug the line that goes from the Filter to the FPR then how is the fuel getting supplies to the rail. Doesn't it go filter - FPR - rail?...can someone please draw me a diagram. thanks
