#64773, "Simple, Cheap, Custom Turbo Kit Idea"

So i am half way sleep in class today when i got a strange idea. This is gonna take some imagination so bare with me. Imagine looking at a 2g GS-T from the front bumper with the hood up. Now imagine removing the engine and trasmission, but leave the exhaust manifold, turbo, O2housing, and downpipe. Now change all the other stuff (AC\PS) to the 420a stuff and drop in a 420a w\tranny. Now mount a custom equal length turbo manifold to the 420a and bamm a cheap turbo system using the stock 2g turbo, O2 housing, and downpipe; all of which can be upgraded.

Basically this kit would consist of a custom manifold, stock 2g T25, O2 housing (stock, ported, or Evo), downpipe (stock, or aftermarket), and since the turbo would be in the same location use of a 2g sidemount would be possible. Now intake and turbo inlet piping would have to be custom to make it work. The downpipe may or maynot clear. Stock 2g turbo parts are real cheap.

The only issue is the manifold for the 420a. The exhaust ports maybe a littler higher or lower in the engine bay than the 4g63, depending on the demensions of the two motors. Of course this kit would be for beginers only (5-12psi). The wastegate will be internal, bov can be purchased along with oil and vacuum lines.

What u guys think??

think about everything you just said. O2 housing would be the least of your problems. They are completely two different engines. COMPLETELY!

PLZ read his whole post before assuming something is wrong.....the only change needed would be the Turbo manifold and some sorta fuel compensation/control...like stated previously....oh yah it would need to have the turbo rotated 90 degrees horizontaly and then the turbo flange would have to be angled or else the compressor outlet would be going directly back into the block...instead of straight down where it could be routed to the intake (more custom piping)

heck you could take KKK turbos from a Porsche 911 and make them work with the right turbo flange for the turbo you bolting on on a specially made turbo header...and correct piping ....depending on wich size you take from a 911(from the old turbos the turbo is huge....new twins use 2 small ones..) you would need to modify acordingly the radiator/fan area....
with a tiny turbo like the stock Dsm..dont think that would be anny problem

so what parts is he actually planning on using from a GS-T, because 90% of the pars can't be used. Turbo, blow off valve, intercooler. That is probabaly about it.

okaaay? emoji you make this idea seem like it's the answer to all our problems. i know what you're trying to say about all this, but it's nothing to be wow about. yeah it is a cheaper solution for you to be boosted but it's almost like starting from scratch developing a new turbosystem. hey if you can get a t25 for cheap or free, go for it but i wouldn't spend money on a t-25.goodluck.

it would be nice to make the kit for cheap but u will have to upgrade in the end anyways so just do it right the first time.
Ok or if u just want to make a nice custom kit its not that hard.
First turbo manifold- ebay like 300 or nice fast fabs one is about 400
Turbo: 300-500 off ebay
wastegate: if ur turbo has a internal one no need if not around 150
FMU: look around i got one for a friends kit for about 100 shipped
Vacuum lines and some fuel line:20
Boost gauge: 35
A/F: 40
Oil line and tee for block around 50 with fittings for turbo
Oil return line and fittings: around 15
Downpipe: around 150 talk to me online i'll tell u more about this. one of my friends for his civic had a 3inch dp and catback made that goes to his rear seat and curves down with a flex section made for 300
They can also put a tap in ur dp for O2
Intercooler cheap side mount off stock eclipse:40
Nice FMIC off ebay like 200
piping: ruffly 150 maybe less use aluminized exhaust piping from JC whitney
Clamps,bolts, and other misc parts:50-75
BOV: stock eclipse 1g: 35 or something off ebay about 150-250
fuel pump: 95
thats about it and u will have a nice turbo kit
i wouldnt go with a T-25 though they suck

well you are acting like we're stupid or something. so are you just saying make a custom kit with the stock 4G63 parts? Or are you talking about something else? Clear things up a bit.

And if you are saying just make a kit with 4G63 parts, there's other turbos from other cars that are better than the T25, and would work much easier. I know that some people used the T3 off the old thunderbird turbos, and it is clocked to exactly where it would need to be. In fact, this is the turbo I was going to use until I found a good deal on an HRC kit, and I have the T3 sitting in my basement. A 1st gen. sidemount would be pretty good, along with a 1st gen BOV.

but if you are talking about something else, that nobody is understanding, then just ignore all that. emoji

edit: and we all read the entire original post, it just doesn't make sense. emoji

The only thing you will be able to use off of the 2g is the turbo, and possibly the intercooler. Thats really it. You can't use the exhaust mani, o2 housing, or the downpipe. You need to make an exhaust manifold to mount the t-25 to, using a 420a exhaust flange, and also a flange to bolt the turbo to. You will need a custom downpipe, and all that is related. You will need all the fuel system componets also. The only money you can save here is pretty much centered on the turbo itself, rather than doing a premade kit, or other custom setup. A custom manifold won't be cheap, and all the other custom parts won't be cheap either. You would be surprised how close you actualy come price wise to a new kit from someone like HRC, which is all bolt on, and NO custom work.

talon"speed" I have more mods and work done on my engine than you so don't talk to me like I was stupid. Your post is not the first of it's kind and we all have to tell noobs like you the same ole shit everytime. I misread your post, for which I so apologize, and thought you wanted to do an engine swap. But still think about what you just posted. Like extreme said, only thing that will work with little fab is turbo and intercooler. Nothing comes cheap when you're boosting a 420a. The only HRC thing on my car is accel inline pump, fcd and s16g everything else is "custom" to run 15psi daily. A lot of us here been so accustomed and so familiar with the 420a that we'll all tell you the same thing. Power is not cheap and there's no easy way out. A couple of guys here thought they could get away with a cheap custom kit. I think only 1 has done, but I forgot who it was. The others just gave up because they ran out of funds for their "cheap kit".

??????? what's new here ?????

I'm making turbo manifold to put T-25 or 14b for years now
Rxr_Eclipse and tim97rs built their custom setup with t-25
gilee_8 used a 14b from a 1st generation

it's not that hard, it was done before, the manifold exist and in the end it's as expensive as doing with a good turbo minus the $150 difference between a puny t-25 versus a nice T3

that's a nice setup, i got some suggestions...that dump tube from the wastegate has to be routed much lower, it's going to blow lots of hot air to the radiator and blacken a lot of that upper area, and also are those home depot rubber hose connectors on the intercooler pipes? if it is...those things blow out past 10psi. i'm telling you from experience.

Yeah, we figured that out the hard way. We went to the local performance shop and baught some nice hose and some nice clamps.. we are probably going to weld beeds onto the pipe to make sure they don't blow out...

As far as the dump tube we connected it to the exhaust dp... it has worked great so far.
