has anyone ever blown their motor running just 5 psi? i finally got my timing belt changed and i want to give it some hell but i keep seeing these blown motor posts. im 5 psi intercooled but running rich and i think my plugs keep fouling. is it necessary to lower the gap to .35 at low boost levels?

If you research the turbo topic and read up on the limits of your system, and all the important gauges, your cool. They blew their motors cuase they rushed the install, or didn't look at the warning signs. I am not surprised gilee blew his motor cause he used GLUE TO HOOK UP HIS FIRST FUEL SYSTEM!!! <<
Its cool how he put the kit together but for christ sake, glue???
Really, would you be surprised emoji

hrc stage 1, sfmu, ml, prokits, egt, boost gauge, apexi tt, costum dp, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler

Hey now... don't say that.
I spent total of 6 months to put all my custom parts together to finish my turbo kit. I know I used glue before..but that's because I have no clue where I can get those two adaptors for the SMFU.

BTW, my car boosting at 6PSI is running perfectly before. Just becaues I am fucking stupid and broke the O2 sensor myself, and drove a long time.... I guess like other said, my HG didn't blow... coz my compression # is 210+ all across... so don't consider mine engine is BLOWN ok.... I just have no fucking clue what's wrong with it... and all the people is telling me is either saying "your engine is gone" or "bring it to a shop"....

I really want to hear some GOOD opinions or help from this board... but somehow I am not quite getting it yet.
But I have to say.... some people here is EXTREMELY helpful.

But for this time, I really NEED ALOT of help... I missed my car. and I can't do shit about it....

I had a Stage 1 HRC kit and blew my motor, but thats' because the NEW BILLET FPR they gave me didn't have markings on which was the vacuum/boost port and which was the bleeder port. I had it connected wrong for a week or 2 and drove it HARD and was only getting like 60-70psi MAX of FP. I learned my lesson though. Just TAKE YOUR TIME with the tuning and/or ask someone to help you tune it (I'm more than happy to help!) and youll be ok.

I have a fully built motor ground up and bent a valve.... forgot to get aftermarket valves...and bent the valve... i was two days away from completly breaking down the entire engine and rebuilding from scratch until my machine shop called to tell me they found two bent valves.

this explained my problem with.

1. overheating at idle
2. low compression on #1 cyl
3. tapping noise in the left side of the engine bay
4. getting it to idle just right.
5. running rich.

I was only running 5psi... you never know i guess.... its a gamble

ive been running 6 psi for a month now...and NO problems. my bet is that you will only have problems bc of the condition of your engine before your turbo it.

you can blow at startup if you did not take your time and install it all correct. Dont rush the install most of all the fuel setup with gas say bye bye.. really i know of some people who blew at 5psi and people who run 15+psi on a stock motor and run fine.

If you can't afford the consequences (monetarily or otherwise), don't play. Do it right, take your time, use the search function, and you won't have any problems.

It's all tuning really. Corbin has been running on stock internals for like 3-4 years but it took noseclipsed (Mike) like one day. Like someone said above, you can blow at 3 psi and someone else could be fine at 15psi. 8psi recommend is just the average. I met someone who wasn't even on 2gnt w/ a Hahn kit who was running 12 psi for a year on stock internals. I was impressed.
EDIT: If I were you I would have an "o shit fund" so if anything happens and you blow your motor you got the money to build a motor and wont need to take out a loan or not have a car for awhile. To many people get their $3200 or whatever it is now to buy a Stage 2 and think thats it. Dont be in a rush and take your time. Do research and make a decision. The turbo kits aren't going to disappear tomorrow.

I've been on 5-6 psi nonintercooled for over a year and it runs fine (knock on wood). Usually the guys who blow their motors have an incorrect setup or try to push the envelope with their boost. ONLY stay at Hahn's specs.

If you tune the fuel and ignition properly you will be fine. People are running lean and advanceing timing with safc, I WONDER why they are blowing up. Geeeeez.

I blew my stock motor at 8psi but that was because I was being a dumbass and already had the money and parts to rebuild so I just kept turning up the boost. Plus, my motor wasn't in excellent shape when I turboed.
