#64545, "Catch can....intake.....Blowby......An idea?"

Why don't we simply run a hose from the valve cover back to the oil pan....so blowby will simply be recirculated back into the engine instead of back into the intake or to a catch can...?

Gil? WTF are you doing logged in under Ryans name?

Think about what you just asked. Just for a second. Then find a big wall, and hit your head on it a few times. Then you'll feel better.

That would defeat the puropse of venting the crankcase. It would just pressurize the engine and blow out your seals. NFG! If you ran it to a vented catch can and then back to the pan then it would work ok but I wouldent reccomend it.

That's fine. I never even had a catch can until just a few weeks ago, and it's just a Gatorade bottle crammed in between two IC pipes. Never get any blowby either.

Where exactly do you crazy kids think that crankcase pressure comes from? it doesn't just magically appear in the cylinder head.

Crank case pressure can come from your piston rings not sealing well and some can come from the valve seals (boosted applications). I respect your input dino but I would like to know how if you do not vent your blowby you would not blow out a seal, or at least push oil out of the seal. The engine would keep building pressure inside. This is why some race engines have vaccume pumps creating vaccume in the engine. I wasnt sure if you were saying no to that or the recirculating the oil back in thing. Yes, it would work. It would be the same as a turbo returning the oil to the pan. The only thin I can think of is that the blow by would be released through the oil pan into the catchcan but it should still allow the oil to drain into the pan. Granted you should not have that much blow by to begin with. If I am really wrong about all this please corect me rather than a NO!

think about the definition of the words "blow-by" think about what that oil goes through and how contaminated it is. you DO NOT want to put it back into your pan of fresh clean oil my friend. thats why STOCK its routed BACK INTO THE INTAKE, so it just burns up on the next combustion cycle.

another thing, the turbos tapped into the oil gally after the oil filter (i.e- its clean, it goes through a bearing case in your turbo and back into the pan, it is not contaminated, its just another clean router for oil to freely flow)

I would never do it to my car, nor recomend doing it, but I am sayin it would work. Also, If you are sayin it is contaminated then how wouldent all the oil in you car be. The oil comes from your head the same oil lubercating the cams, bearings, ect. And the gases that are vented come into contact with all the oil inside the engine. They have to go down by the oil pan before they go up into the head and out. Why do you think your oil gets dirty. Also the vlavecover vents are routed back into the intake because the intake will suck the air out of the motor under vac driving conditions thus creating vac in the engine which is good. It also helps a little emissions because any gas in the vapor will be reburned as stated before. instead of being vented directly into the atmosphere.

I've never made the connection between blowby and pressure....just blowby and oil...oops.

I think what gave me the idea is that fact that I've heard people taking the oil in their catch can and pouring it back into the engine to replace the lost oil...so I was like...okay why not just runit to the oil pan to save time.

Okay. I'm frustrated. I've been wracking my brain for the past five minutes trying to find anywhere in the last four years of threads that i ever stated i plugged my breather. Where did you even get the idea that this is what i was discussing? I'm curious.

Just because i don't have a catchcan doesn't mean my engine won't vent crankcase pressure. c'mon now.

As well, saying that i don't get blowby does not mean that i am not venting pressure. Sure, the pressure vents, but i get no oil blowby anywhere. Why catch something that isn't there?

I really don't mean to sound like an asshole, but i am just flat boggled that someone could think drining a catchcan directly into the oilpan would work without giving any sort of thought to the pressure difference between the pan and the outside an what's going to ahppen when all that pressure is allowed to vent directly from the oil pan.

Dino, I never said you had no way to vent your blow by, nor you need a catch can. If Ryan connected both the vents on the top of the valve cover to the oil pan it would be eliminating any where for the blow by to escape. Also by leaving the lines loose and not connectd to any thing, or even a catchcan, it would essentially be the same as having a line to the oilpan open to the atmosphere, They are all connected.

oh yea....duh, i guess it really doesnt have anything directly to do with oil. i guess i wasnt thinking about it either. blow by *gas* is un-burnt fuel vapor that squeezes past the piston rings during a compression stroke, got it. just so happens that sometimes it pushes some oil out. if you tapped the pan you'd be venting un burnt fuel vapor into your oil pan, the idea of the century.

So two days? Sounds like a long term test to me - I'm sure you've put them through a whole bunch of tests, haven't you?

For saving $20 they better run for two days. Gemme call Eyell give u good deel.

Isn't this thread about routing your head blow-by down to your oil pan blow-by?

Nope, you didn't say anything about testing them. But the sentence you did write made it sound like your marshmallows were in, running, and the greatest thing since... real marshmallows!

And no, I don't ever have anything to say that's nice, except that Ryan's mom is fucking hot. She's such a MILF, I'd fuck her like I did last night.

I didn't say the locks were going to come out, what I said was this:

I also said something about using TOOLS to put them in instead of your fingers.

OMG! MORE than $20? Can you tell me where I got them? Maybe then I could afford a set of my own!

Originally posted by turbo8uit was a question dude, im curious to know why you dont like wiseco. i guess we'll have to see when i dyno it.

I don't like them because they're awful pistons. I call them marshmallows for a reason. They're like CNC'd pieces of shit. My cow, Bessy, has more dense fecal matter than your piston, which promotes longevity, and makes her ass a better producer of pistons than Wiseco. The low silica content of Wiseco's are indicative of their poor quality. a good quality piston will expand more as it's heated. That's why other pistons have like twice the recommended piston to wall clearance of a Wiseco.

They are marshmallows.

Originally posted by turbo8uand yes, this thread WAS about routing head blow-by to the oil pan but we cleared that up, dont you think?

Actually, I think I single-handedly cleaned that up, thanks.

Originally posted by turbo8uhows that tractor by the way? still puttin around? you dont even have a 2gnt do you?

She's doing well, thanks for asking. After putting a set of quality BESSY brand pistons, I'm good to go! I've been working on it all winter, awaiting the spring drags. I've been practicing by pulling your sister's fat ass around the farm. Or was it Ryan's mom? I can't ever remember.

You got me on that one, too. Man, you're so right. Not only do I not have a 2gnt, I also don't even know what a 420a is. I don't have any experience with them, and I also have no idea how to work on automobile engines. I just pretend. emoji I know more than most of you guys here do, so I must be doing pretty good, huh?

cant you just stick a little filter in the line so its sucking in clean air and catching the oil in the filter? ive never actually seen that, ive just seen a vented filter (no vaccuum to it) and the catch can... this seems like it would still be legal, it would just suck clean air...never looked into this, so feel free to rip on me for not knowing anything about it

You know, I was about to go spank it before I have to get off the Internet. Ryan's mom says I have to go to bed in ten minutes. I get off more on pointing out people's stupidity, so I'd rather do this. I'll get pleasure from Ryan's mom later, so it's okay if I don't spank it to my John Deere pictures right now emoji

The factory already did that for you, Einstein. They're called "oil drains" - they go from the head down through the block to the oil pan. You obviously have no idea where blow-by comes from.

It comes from massive explosions in these things (probably exclusive to the 420a) called "combustion chambers" - you see, these chambers compress fuel and air, and then ignite them to make power. You should read up on something called the "internal combustion engine" - you might learn a thing or two. Your 420a is a four stroke, just to let you know what specifically you should be looking for.

So your combustion chambers have these things at the bottom of them. Most people call them pistons, but if they're Wiseco's then you should just call them marshmallows. These marshmallows have something called "rings" on them - they seal the marshmallow and the cylinder so when you compress the air and fuel, you keep the air inside the "chamber". Blow by occurs when the air/fuel mixture gets past those rings.

Oh, so that's an explaination of blowby. So, do you know where blow-by goes? into the crankcase. Guess what? The blow-by in your head is the same blow-by as the blow-by in your oil pan. So, connecting the two is about as useless as a tractor without a plow. Or as useless as a teenage guy with a dick. He can't use it right.

I Thought this was either a very crule joke, or a completely stupid dumbass post when I first read it. Then I read the REPLIES. They're even worse.

Extreme97nt - Man, what the fuck are you talking about? "some race cars" run vacuum pumps because they allow you to run low tension rings, help scavenge oil, and help with ring sealing. Dumbass.

96rs-t - vent your hose to your ear - it works great emoji There's nothing wrong with venting it to wherever in your engine bay. Unless you're a Berkley hippie, then you'll have a problem with the enviromental impact it may have.

turbo8u - I wish I could be like you.

Blow-by has *nothing* to do with OIL. Figure it out. You are all cockmasters. It's time to go shoot my load into some chick's eye.

Thanks for explaining, I just figured the negative pressure in the engine was used to create more hp. However not that I think about it low friction rings=less friction=more hp

omfg. What's going on. Are you guys serious?

I've got to get out of this thread before the retardation rubs off on me.

The pcv system pulls air from the breather through the crankcase and back out the vc into the intake to be burnt. Attach your breather line to the oil pan, suck oil daily!

I'm out. :o

Dude, you are a such a smart ass...or should I say 'tool'. I know where blowby comes from...I simply heard that people reintroduced 'blown by' oil back into the engine so it popped into my head an idea to ask why we don't run it to the oil pan to save the effort of checking blowby. Yes I didn't connect to blowby attributes of oil and pressure, just oil....so that means I don't know how a combustion engine works at all?

Why not just reply in a respectful manner and try to impress people with your knowledge without being a dick about it. And don't talk about my mom you fuck, what's that about? I don't post questions wanted to hear shit like that. If I ever have a problem don't help me.

What do you mean? I'm not TRYING to be a smartass, it just comes out naturally. I was simply explaining things to people who don't have a clue, and coulen't buy one if they wanted to. That does include you.

Blow-by is not cause by, and has almost nothing to do with oil. The only thing oil has to do with blow-by is that sometimes, if blow-by is severe enough, you end up blowing oil from the valve cover into the intake manifold.

Originally posted by Ryan_Hesso that means I don't know how a combustion engine works at all?

Maybe you know one or two things, but in the total scope of engines, you're combustionally challenged.

For one thing: You don't know what blow-by is or how it works.
