I installed my new 20G this weekend and everything ran fine till this afternoon when I had a huge trail of white smoke again. There is no shaft play though. I believe that my oil pan is getting pressurized because when I turned off the car I could hear a fizzing coming from the turbo. I do have a white residue under the oil cap which useally means water in the oil and a good bit of white smoke coming out of the cap when I take it off while th car is running. I don't have any white smoke coming out of the dip stick though. I am pretty sure that the oil return line is fine because I replaced it with the new turbo. Last compressing test was 215-220 across the board. The car ran fine after I took off the last turbo for the 3 weeks and fine for the last 3 days with the bew turbo. Should I be looking for a cracked pistion ring or a bad HG. Any help about what the problem could be would be appreciated. I am kind of leaning toward the HG. I do have 54,000 on her now.

Have you verified that it is actually the turbo leaking oil?

Yes as there is oil in the intake side of the turbo and the intercooler again.

Before my rebuild, I had oil in the intercooler pipes, and it turned out I had cracked piston rings (from too much boost), which killed my 16G. But, instead of jumping to conclusion, I'd do a compression test again. Usually when there's oil in the i/c pipes, the turbo or seal could be bad.

I will do one this weekend and report back with the results ASAP. Should I be worried about the white residue under the oil cap though. I'm not loosing any coolant. I just flushed the cooland and changed the oil on Sun. and every thing looked fine and the residue was there before then also.

if you figure out whats wrong with your maybe that will point me in the right direction with my brothers. the same exact thing happened on this celica. we assumed it was a ring blown. but from lookin at the boost gauge when it was idle it was readin about 24 in vac. dont' have the tool for a comp test so we just assumed. but let me know, maybe i'll have some new light or something not so bad on my hands.

Just cause there is oil in the IC pipes doesnt necessarily mean your turbo is leaking oil. Compression test, and id say u have cracked a ring land.

The problem was me having both of my vents on my valve cover going to a catch can. The thick sludge crap had frozen in the inputs on the can not letting the engine breath and pressurizing the oil pan some what. Does this make any sense? Any way the problem went away and the car is running fine for now except for the oily plugs it now has in it. I am still goin to do a compression test Sun and change the plugs. I will post up the numbers then. Last time I was between 215 and 220 psi across all four. Thanks for the help guys.

Down a little from last time but sill pretty good. I am still blowing a little smoke due to what oil I couldn't get out of the intercooler. Other than that it is running pretty good.

Now the only problem is the white smoke I'm still getting because the intercooler had a quart of oil in it. I jacked the car up on the driver side and loaded the intercooler up with throttle body cleaner to try and clean it out but I'm still getting a little white smoke especially after driving it around and hitting boost. Hopefully I didn't damage the oil seals in the turbo it is only 6 days old. There isn't any oil in the cold side of the turbo any where.
