Okey, we pulled the engine out today, it took us about 2 hours. As we where taking the engine out we found a few things that might have been the pinging/knocking noise I was hearing before I started pulling the engine apart.
We found a washer floating around in the front engine mount by the front mount intercooler that was loose, we also found out that we are missing a bolt and the rear engine mount was loose and almost sounds very similar when we wiggled it around to the noise i was hearing while the engine was on. Among other things when i took the top part of the engine off i found that 2 or 3 of the bolts i had for the intake manifold where missing so the intake manifold was loose as well.
I have had the head pressure checked and looked at by rpmrons.com (machine shop) and they said everything checked out ok/no problems. I checked the lower end for up/down movement and it's solid.. I also did a lithium grease test to see if the rings scraped the grease up and it worked wonderfully. I am very confused what could have been causing my low compression, however, i'm starting to point at the headgasket simply because there is oil caked on by the #1 cylender just under the head on the block. I don't want to take the pistons all the way out if i don't have to. I really honestly think everything is solid.
I'm looking for suggestions here.... I have an other MLS headgasket laying around I could use and try it out.. Is there an other way to make sure the rings are ok, without taking the pistons out and the head being off?
There wasn't any trace of metal in the oil pan when i took it off, infact it looked great!
Could my compression tester i bought at autozone been bad?
Right now the plan is to clean the engine up really good, take off the remainder of the cam cover and replace the timing belt and the cam cover and put an after market dampner and cam gears on and while the engine is out clean up the engine compartment "wires and hoses etc" and put new headgasket on and carefully put it back together...
Any suggestions would be nice... Do you think i should rebuild it?

Hmmmm, you know I have an Autozone compression tester and it has acted up before... last time I did a comp test it told me 60 psi for number 2.... until I took the comp tester out and ut it back in again, then I got 175 psi accross the board.... My guess is the o-ring wasnt seealing good....
Right now you should take every piston and rod out, and check them out fully.... just get some new clevite rod bearings from howell.....
You'd be stupid not to pull the bottom end now you have it out.... you could pull every piston and refit them in less than an hour.... so go for it. And take more pics...

Ugh that just makes my stomache cringe at the thought of my compression tester being faulty.... I think next monday i'm going to take the short block down to http://www.rpmrons.com and have them take it apart and put it back together and look for anything wrong while in the process... Better safe then sorry.. they quoated me $300 + parts.. i figure rings $75.00 barings about $40.00? unless my crank for some reason is messed up but i really think the bottom end is solid...
I guess we will find out eh

What caused you to rip it back apart in the first place? I must have missed something. A lot of the things that you said you forgot can cause problems, great job rippin her apart in 2hrs!
