for those up north that get snow+salt, are our intercoolers gonna be ok? u think the salt could get in there and mess it up? what about rust? just curious.

i believe the HRC intercooler is TIG welded aluminum. i don't think aluminum can rust like steel or iron can.

personally, i enjoy the snow and ice getting stuck in it. it drops IAT's big time which give a little gain in power - it also enables the ECU to advance timing by 3-4 degrees over summer operation. while datalogging the other night it was REALLY cold and i was getting 40-45 degrees farenheight AT THE MANIFOLD around 1.1 bar of boost. this results in a nice kick in the seat of your pants.

yeah with a trap speed of 100 i could be doing mid 13's, but that's if i could launch like AWD, or if i could launch at all... with that run i had a 2.3 ish second 60' time, it wasn't fun.

that was also before all of my mods that i did over the summer like the FMIC, new clutch, etc...

I live in Ohio. The winter could get pretty bad. The salt hasn't and shouldn't hurt aluminum. When I have to take my front end out to work on something, I always use Blue Magic aluminum polish on the intercooler. It leaves a thin coating of wax. Something else that I learned from professional detailers is, spraying wd-40 on metal parts--including aluminum. It's worked so far emoji

Yup, it is aluminum. Bare aluminum will form an aluminum-oxide layer on its surface when exposed to the atmosphere. That oxide layer is like a self protecting corrosion. The layer will protect the base metal from further deterioration.
