#62028, "My 16G Died!!!!"

Monday morning I go to start my car for work as normal and when I get to work there is a huge cloud of white smoke behind the car and the muffler is full of oil. Thinking the worst I go out side when it gets light and take off the intake tube and find the turbo full of oil. I go to take off the lower intercoolet pipe and about a quart of oil comes out of the intercooler. I honestly was happy it wasn't the pistons or the head gasket but dam the turbo only has like 8000 miles on it. emoji

Has this happened to any one else? I know it was gettubg oil or the wouldn't have been so much in the intercooler. I bought the kit from a fellow 2GNT member actually. I will list his page below. Reguardless when I received the turbo it had zero shaft play and looked brand new so i doubt it was from the previous owner.

I always run Mobil 1 Syth. oil and change it about every 2000 miles. I also let it cool down before turning off the car. Either way i have a new ceramic coated 20G on the way now. Hopefully the bottom end will hod up till summer whne i can get an FTY block.

Diceman = Vulture emoji

I have about 10k on my 16g and its running strong. These turbos should last a lot longer running under a properly built turbosystem. What kind of blow off valve do you have? Is it connected the right way and have a good signal (not split) line from the intake?

I use a TurboXS type H RFL with no washers. I do have the singal split off a vacume line off the back of the intake manifold. I will be sure to put it on its own line when I install the 20G. As for the 16G being rebuildable I believe so but I would call Hahn to make sure. I will probably sell it since I'm getting the 20G.

Any one have any other ideas?? emojis

Perhaps the oil return line is too small, poorly routed, or clogged up. The oil pressure would back up into the turbo housing and push oil out the seals. Then you start pumping oil into your intercooler pipes and engine.

Yeah, I air-pressure test my oil feed & drain lines every time I disconnect them cuz I'm paranoid. I also prime the oil feed line whenever I reconnect it emoji

The hahn super 16g uses a t3 flange not a mitsu flange so it wouldn't bolt into your gsx without an adapter.

I didn't check the return line yet but I did order a new one with the new turbo since the top is all chopped up from the hose clamp. It does have alot of shaft play though. Not yet touching the sidewalls but very close.

As for selling the turbo I'm not sure yet but if I do sell it I will also include the the factory HRC down pipe welded to the factory 2GNT pipe to the cat since I got XtremeRS's new down pipe about a week ago.

I took off the oil cap today had had a white residue on the bottom of it so maybe I will need a head gasket also. I'll have to drop the oil this weekend and flush the coolant.

HRC can take a S16G turbo(yours), and for 500 bucks, rebuild it, machine it, adn all that to make it a S20G..may want to take that route if you can live without your car for a while. HRC can also rebuild your turbo if you like.

I really can't live with out the car so I just ordered the 20G. It was only $599 plus the ceramic coating. I am more worried about the residue under the oil cap right now.

was it like a whitish paste that came off? my gsx had that under the coolant cap when we did the timing belt change. i think it was just an old gasket on the cap that broke itself down. i just cleaned it off. *shrug*

Yea it was a white past. That is useally a sigh of moisture in the oil(coolant). If you really want the turbo and down pipe hit me up at lonnie1977@yahoo. I would like if someone could use it. I just couldnt deal with the down time.
