#61448, "Poll question: winter upgrade?"

so, to make a long story short, i wanted to upgrade my fuel system this winter. i really want a full standalone to control fuel and spark but that's not really avaiable yet (called HRC the other day and they said that their DFI gen. VII for the 2gnt wouldn't be ready for a few months)

i really don't want to do the 8 injector setup. i'd like to stay with 4 injectors. i also don't want to do the megasquirt, mainly because i'd spending months trying to tune the car because i would have no where to start without a decent base map.

so here's where i need to make a decision. my issue is that my AFC was stolen about a month ago when my car was broken into. in the next week or so i will my car will get inspected and smogged (hopefully i'll be able to decently tune my fuel system with just the S-FMU), and by Massachusetts law i won't need to get smogged again for another 2 years, which means i can go nuts with my camshafts finally. i really want to do things once and do it right, and get the crane 0018's or the crower stage 3 cams with all of the supporting valvetrain mods but i'm pretty sure running those cams can't be done without an AFC or an other way of messing with the MAP sensor. idle vacuum pressure would be so low tricking the S-FMU into adding more fuel which would be an evil cycle that would result in my engine stalling from running excessively rich. does not sound like a fun time to me.

of course i could just get the crane 0014's, which i hear idle like stock and are just a little more aggressive than OEM cams, but i want something more.

i don't want to buy another AFC only to keep it for a few months until i get a DFI. what should i do?
