Oct-27-03 02:19 AM by gilee_8

OK guys..
I am getting pissed about this.
Turbo in...just need intercooler piping.
But I want to drive around and see if everything is good.
But the STUPID SFMU is still won't lower Fuel pressure.
I do'nt konw if it's SFMU or etc.
But the fuel gauge still read 55PSI no matter want.

OK..anyway... Let me tell you want I did to test why it wo'nt lower PSI ok.

1) I took out the Stock FPR again, and DRILL the cutted part directly through all the way till it reach the valve part. Now is leaking Fuel..but I will weld it later (good?)

2) I unhooked my return fuel line from my SFMU to the firewall connecting to the stock return fuel line... and I put it to a bucket. and started the car, and about 30sec, it fill out 3/5 of the gallon bucket. (is that mean everything before the return fuel line is good?) I mean, for a stock injectors and walbro 255HP. is that the correct amount to spit out at the return line of the SFMU? So do you think the ONLY problem now is the stock return fuel line is FUCKED up?

3) My next check is, buy a 10 feet long fuel hose, and hook from my SFMU directly to my tank (skip the stock return fuel line) Will that do it?

Thanks guys.
Please give me some detail info about what you think above ASAP.
I need help on this STUPID FUEL SYSTEM man.

I'm not sure about the 95's, but it sounds like you still having the factory FPR installed, but modified? I do not believe you should have it in your car at all, just lines to your SFMU with nothing in between but a fuel filter on the feed line.

I hope you mean JB Weld. You don't want to go up in flames by using a metal arc welder near fuel!

ya wtf are you doing man? If you have a 95 then you just put the sfmu in line where your old one was (fpr). You need to use the dark spring and twist the adjustment screw near the way bottom. This will get you your fp at idle.

Yeah, you need to remove the stock FPR. Thats probably what is keeping your fuel pressure so high. Goto home depot and get a mating barb and remove the stock fpr and connect the lines with the barb.

I just went outside to play with my car. Check this out.

I started up the car, idled it for a few minutes, turned the boost controller up a half psi or so. Idle fuel pressure was about 20 psi.

Drove the car for about 10 minutes, came home, and parked it. Left it running, popped the hood, and now the idle fuel pressure is like 14 psi. Hmmmm. Vacuum leak couldn't cause it, cause a leak would cause higher pressure, the exact opposite. Wonder what it could be... ?

Guys...
I will take out the stock FPR and weld it...so wo'nt be in flame.
Second.
What you guys talking about???
As Corbin said and what his website said.... for 1995 eclipse....I have to cut the stock FPR...put it back (that will disable it) then it will be all set.

So can anyone reply to my first post questions? (3 of them) thanks man.
I am very IMPATIENT about this STUPID Fuel system crap... nothing works.

Just get rid of the stupid stock FPR completely... don't use anything, not even the stock fuel filter. Run a line from the SFMU outlet all the way back to your fuel pump assembly's return barb. Don't use rubber underneath the car.

DON'T Use Rubber?
Then What do I use?

Also, I can't just DON"T use the stock FPR...coz there will be a HOLE in my fuel rail.

You're going to have to disregard alot of these people's answers. Most people don't know how the 1995 fuel system goes together. Check your e-mail and give me a call.

I don't know about disregarding our suggestions. I see nothing at all wrong with throwing away the factory FPR. I don't know how the 95 fuel rail is set up exactly, but I'm sure you could manage to plug/block off the outlet on the fuel rail where the stock FPR connects to, or connect the SFMU to that port. Unless of course the factory FPR is a physical part of the fuel rail, in which case you couldn't really do much, except plug the fuel line outlet on the stock FPR and leave it on the car, running new return lines from the SFMU to the tank.

Thanks guys.
I apprecaited.
But you are right.
for 1995...teh FPR is part of teh fuel rail....
And there are no threads..or another thing for it to screw on... it's PART OF IT....so anyhow...thanks guys.

I realize that I may have come off like a jackass. The 1995 fuel system is very unique. Several of the suggestions in this thread will not work and will just confuse Gil. The 1995 FPR forms the end of the fuel rail and is held in place by a snap ring. There is no readily available way to block off or put a fitting on the hole left by the FPR. The easiest method is to just disable the FPR and reinstall it. Here's a pic:

The fuel rail is actually a twin-tube design. The flow of the FPR is entirely internal. Fuel enters through the bolted fitting on the outside of the rail. Fuel flows through the outer shell of the fuel rail and to the injectors. Fuel is then restricted by the FPR on the end of the rail. Fuel is bypassed through the center of the FPR to maintain fuel pressure. Fuel is bypassed into the center of the fuel rail and travels to the outlet fitting on the end of the rail.

Interesting... I am glad I got a new aftermarket fuel rail with my turbo kit. This looks like a pain, plus the ports on the new rail are huge. Lots of flow emoji

hey corbin i have a 95 and i dissabled the fpr like it says on your web site the problem i'm having is that my Sfmu will not go lower than 20psi at idle i wanna go lower because i'm running 440 and 20psi at idle is too much it almost cuts off sometimes. i think the fpr is not totally dissabled when you cut it like you say to cut it.

Cutting the FPR like I say does disable it and works for most applications. I know it works for fuel pressures in the 20's. There may be some pressure loss just from the design of that fuel rail and regulator. That might put a lower limit on your fuel pressure in the rail. The S-FMU may also have a lower limit that it can control. I certainly wouldn't recommend running fuel pressures below 20 psi. You'll eventually reach a point where the injectors don't spray well. As much as I don't like the S-AFC, you might use it to sort out your idle problems at least.

Hey Corbin... I got bored last night and started making a spreadsheet using formulas from your fuel injector pages. It works fine until I try using values like 140 hp and 310cc injectors, then it shows a maximum fuel pressure being less than static emoji

I will email you the spreadsheet if you want to look at it.

The problem comes with:

What is our actual horsepower at the crank?
What is the actual BSFC of our engine in stock form?
How conservative is the stock fuel system?

calm down.

if you only knew the shit that I wasd going through with mine, you would feel lucky.

I really think that you should look into running a new return line like most of us with 97+ have to. when I hear about someone who is having trouble dropping their pressures, it usually is a problem with their return.

but CHILL! this is fun....remember?

peace

I don't know how much money you have laying around, or how long you're willing to wait, but you could always get an aftermarket fuel rail. I love mine...

why does everyone have a problem the 95 stock return line?
is it too small or something?
don't use rubber under the car, ok then what do we use?
don't give more questions for questions.
does that make sense i am soo tired
later

If the return line is too small, then the exra fuel trying to flow through it, can cause a restriction, eg more fuel pressure. It just cant keep up the flow through the stock lines to keep the pressure down. You dont want to use rubber lines under the car in case you run something over, and run the risk of ripping the fuel line. You can easily obtain flexible metal fuel line, then connect with short pieces of rubber line to the return fitting on the tank, and a short piece connecting to the SFMU. I dont have a 95, so not sure how much return fuel you can flow through it, and how low of pressure you can run. Its really not hard running a new return line...

The '95 fuel line should be fine for what you are doing. I'm running 26 psi at idle with the stock line. If you are stuck at 55 psi, I think you have a bad S-FMU.
