well im no expert, but a few of these i have done my research on and can help you out...please feel free to correct me if im wrong on anything, hope this helps
Originally posted by weepulI've looked in the FAQ already for these with no luck. -How do you know just how much boost is too much?
-- just go with what people have tested for our engine....5psi is the safest route for stock internals, but people have gone up to 12psi....although they weren't heavy footed
-With something like an Autometer boost guage, why does it show negative boost?
-- the turbo is still spooling and not actually boosting anything....that creates a vaccum like a N/A engine.... the gauge just shows that the engine isn't actually seeing any boost yet
-With the a/f guage....too lean means more hp but more chance of det? and too rich means?...
-- not completely sure on the question, but too rich means too much gas
-If I got an EGT guage, what temps am I looking for?
-- i think the max egt gauge reading to look out for before doing damage is 1600f ....im not sure on what the average reading is
-If I got a FMIC for a TSi, could I put an oil cooler where the old side-mount was, and would it be a wise investment?

-Are the 4g63 engines (the ones used in gst/x or tsi) any less prone to blowing gaskets than the 420a? I've had 2 420a's and have blown 3 gaskets on each.
-- the turbo 4g63's were designed for turbo, therefore they were made with stronger internals whereas the 420a was made to be non-aspiration
-With too much whp on even an awd car, it sounds like launching will put too much pressure on the axles. If i got new axles, it'd go to the tranny? Would I have to upgrade the whole powertrain to get a good launch w/o risk?
-- i think ive heard our tranny is good up to 500hp with just a new clutch and something else that i cant think of at the time....but once you get into the 300 whp range, thats where you start to worry about axels
Ok, thanks for hanging in there! I'm going from n/a to turbo soon so I wanna do my homework! Thanks for the help.
