alright guys i'm on the fence here...should i just buy a kit or build my own kit...the only issue i see with the latter is intercooler piping and oil and fuel lines...everything else is fairly easy to come by...also i was looking at this guys neon r/t it has the 420 engine and he was going to put the srt4 turbo and manifold on it...will this fit on ours as well...it's a prettier manifold than any custom i've seen...anyway help me out..push me one way or another..tks

Custom or kit? Depends on how much you know about turbocharging! If you've never worked with a boosted engine before, you may want to get a kit. It will cost more, but you get the piece of mind knowing you have everything you need and it's all been tested time and again.

If you have a custom set-up, you will save some money, but you will also likely have many issues with fitment and installation. You will have to fab quite a bit of stuff from scratch and then dig up all your components yourself, that's why it's called custom. emoji

As far as the SRT manifold goes, I'd stayaway from it myself. Uber here in phoenix has an SRT and the turbo is part of the manifold! There's no way to separate it! Oy! Even then, it still doesn't have a proper waste gate, just some shitty surge valve that none of the SRT owners (who know anything of course) are very happy about.

So there's some stuff to think about. emoji

I agree...that SRT one piece mani/exh. housing is shit...no easy way to upgrade.

i agree that parts are harder to find...i already have access to the mani..turbo...the only thing i'm gonna need to fab is the intercooler piping and down pipe and of course oil and fuel lines...i kinda like this way better...money really isn't the issue as much as getting what i want the first time rather than wasting money...i want black crome piping for the intercooler, i want a ssq bov, t3/t4 hybrid, spearco intercooler...i see no point in buying the kits and getting some of the stuff i want then spending more money to upgrade to the components i really want...both have advantages and disadvantages...i like the star kit better than the Hahn if i had to choose...but i don't like the fact that i can't talk directly to the maker of the product like you can with Hahn

would you need to?
If your thinking about going the custom way then you should already know at least the basics, Who are you gonna call if you run into trouble? ( well besides us emoji ) If you want your own intercooler and stuff get the stage one. Then again if you go the custom route your still missing the DP, The oil lines and adapters, FCD, the intake pipping like mentioned , The intercooler and brackets. The fuel system.

good luck.

oh BTW I recommend Maximum Boost by Corky Bell:bowdown good reading

IMO its going to be way easier if you just get a kit. Someone already put all the time and research into what parts fit, are durable, and work well together. And ... when things go wrong in the future, your going to have a tougher time with replacements. Unless you got nothing better to do, why go through all that hassel? If you want to have some "custom" influene on your car buy a Stage 1 Hahn or Star kit and go from there. There is a lot of room to expand with both those kits as far as fuel setup, intercooling, BOV's etc...

ok i've decided...i'm going to do a hybrid kit..LOL i'm going to get the intercooler and piping from Hahn...i already have a mani w/external wastegate...turbonetics t3/t4 turbo...i got oil lines...someone to make the dp...going with the vortech fmu...walboro fuel pump...i think that makes the best of both worlds...i don't have to worry about proper fitment of the intercooler and piping..which is the biggest hastle in my opinion..i do have the local DSM club that i'm involved with that is more than willing to help out a fellow DSMer thanks for all the advice guys...
