#55169, "retarded egt gauge"

this started happenig yesterday. at first the needle began by swinging back and forth really fast to the current temp and down from there. then it got so bad that it just stayed at o for a while. i rewired it to the ignition harness power cable and now its alot better but when i leave off the throttle, it still sometimes bounces back and forth to the lower temps. any guess? its autometer by the way.

I have a similar problem....it seems to be related to the voltage or something....the needle bounces around and get worse if I hold the brake or turn my fog lights on....I'm going to try connecting it directly to the battery...

That might help...but if anyone else has any idea that'd be nice. Mine is autometer also..

I had a similar problem not long ago-turned out to be a bad ground wire connection. This was after checking all of the other connections-thats the way it goes sometimes. Good luck!

I dont think the EGT gauge has a ground.....only a power wire, and 2 signal wires to the probe....hmmm

Check if it got melted to the EGR pipe. Any time probe wires get pinched or melted to something, you get those symptoms.

Your probe is going bad.... you need to replace the temp probe.... it seems to be a new common thing with autometer egt's

ive had that problem the etire time i had the egt gauge. i thought it was a bad ground so i moved it to the engine bay where the ecu grounds (corbin says it was the best ground). maybe i should get different egt gauge/probe. anyone have this problem with other gauges or just autometer.

still retarded gague. i redid the groud and power source.

my observations is this: it works perfectly when the motor is still cold to warm but after 15min, its starts acting insane. i am guessing its the temp in the engine probably. you would think autometer would have a heat resistant egt lines.

anyone know if greddy gauges experience this?

can this be the probe or the egt lines?

aha!!!

i seem to have solve the whole gauge dilemma. i think the lines for the probe where getting too hot since it crossed from the manifold to the firewall over the engine. so once the engine became hot, the egt starts acting wacky.

the solution: i routed the wires along the engine bay. the probe is at the third runner and the wire connected to the probe runs toward the front of car, the liines go infront of the radiator and to the side of the engine bay and to the firewall.

the gauge hasn't been acting up ever since. hope this helps someone.

drive around some more and report back here if u had any problems. if it worked ill try that even though mine runs from downpipe - under turbo - side of battery - through firewall. doesnt seem like it would get too hot that way. tia.

why do you have the probe in the 3rd runner?

i drove for a good 30min yesterday, and then another 30. before, the needle would twitch a good 10min from a cold engine-now its steady.

i have the egt gauge on the 3rd runner for no other reason.
