ok so i start it up, ok... i turn it off i hear this hisssing noise from the dipstick area. i pull the dipstick out and it makes a louder hisssing noise.. is that bad? what does that mean? no smoke or anything. compression is sorta high too.. 195-197 on all four. i have the 881 je compression pistons.. did my machine shop mild my head or resurface it to much? im more worried about the hissing noise.. anyonw know whats going on? thanks Michael 99gs HRC Stage IV 8-Injector Setup 2GNT Member #32

You still have your PCV valve and breather line hooked up right? I dont see how any crankcase pressure can build up if those are in working order. That compresson does sound a bit high, maybe the ring gaps are set a bit tighther..

hmm im going to try something out right now and see if my hissing noise goes away.. and as far as the ring gap being tight, i think it is.. not sure what 'exactly' what the machine shop bored my block to but i remember my builder had a gap of about .19 or .019 something like that.. and i remember others have there gap around .21-.22 or .021-.22.. sorry about the gaps i put down not sure exactly if it has a 0 before or not. but im postive it had a 19 in it. he did not grind the rings down just pop it on. he said it was fine and he did not want me to have alot of blow by. and so far no oil in mt catch can. thanks for the info Matt. you made me think and now no more hissing. points for you. i guess the compression being higher means i got to be more careful with tuning, and to maybe run less max boost later. thanks Michael 99gs HRC Stage IV 8-Injector Setup 2GNT Member #32

Yeah, your ring gaps are a bit tighter than what mine are at, but i wouldnt worry about it too much, unless you want to be pushing 400+ HP on it, with a bigger turbo and lots of boost.. I did my rings to .022, and .024. I get a little bit of blowby..but those gaps are ready for lots and lots of power..
