#54618, "Gottude Turbo kit been running and a little review"

OK, I'm done playing around. It's time to tell the world what I think of the first Gottude Turbo kit.

I'm sorry Bill but this wasn't a "KIT" it was a turbo, a warped manifold and a horribly made DP. I liked the fuel pump and the oil lines.

I spent hundreds of bucks just trying to get this "KIT" to work. The piping from the turbo to the TB was the same size as the T3 outlet and had nasty welds all over it. On top of that the pipe used wasn't even compleatly cut flat and wasn't even debured.

Turbo intake-
Great intake but the filter Bill sent me didn't even fit.I used my old reactive filter without the heatshield.

The fuel pressure gauge read to 200PSI. I have a really hard time trying to read fuel pressure.

On the street-
The turbo has a hard time spooling but the car pulls well when it finaly get around to it. I was told the turbo has a 5-6psi spring in the wastegate but I've hit 9PSI! NOTE MY CAR IS STAGE ONE on 8.8 to one comp JE pistons that have been teflon coated with eagle rods.

Updates and more info in a few

Peace and hot turbo oil late!

Sorry Bill but I'm done with playin games.

Well. Here is my input. It is the FIRST kit. So the others he is making may be much better. I dont know yet. One of my friends close to me is getting one so Ill find out when he puts it on. Remember though it is the first kit so im sure some things are bound to not be perfect and such. Plus from what Ive seen and heard and from tlaking to him, Bill is great guy and seems like he will work with anyone on anything.

Also, with the turbo not spooling early... um, cant say much there. its a turbo and there is a thing called lag. Not something you can blame Bill on. Turbos have lag. what do u call spooling late anyway? just curious. Late to one person could be early or fine to another. Not bashing anyone just these are my thoughts. It is his first kit. Im sure the other companies first kits were nto perfect when they came out. Yeah the first kit may be on there cars but you dont know about how many manifolds or turbos or downpipes they went through to get it right. you wont hear about that. I think Bills kits will eb the first where people here almsot everything about them. which is why they will be better than the other kits.

again my opinion though and Im not changing from getting my kit from him. And he will be building my engine. I say, people should wait until more people have his kits first before any real. anyway. im done

I didn't know Bill made KITs... I thought he supplied parts that may or may not need modification to work. I've had to modify parts I got from him but the quality of the manifold and oil lines were great and I've run quarters in the low 13.30s with his equipment.

>On top of that
>the pipe used wasn't even compleatly cut flat and wasn't even
>debured.

Again, I believe these are just parts to help you with your CUSTOM setup... you should be grinding, fitting, deburring, and painting all your parts to accomodate your specific CUSTOM turbo setup.

>Turbo intake-
>Great intake but the filter Bill sent me didn't even fit.I
>used my old reactive filter without the heatshield.

It's hard to find a filter with an inner diameter as small as the T3's air inlet. Use a clamp and tighten it down. It'll work fine, that's what I have done.

>The fuel pressure gauge read to 200PSI. I have a really hard
>time trying to read fuel pressure.

If you're stage 1, you need a FP gauge that can display well over 100psi to accomodate the stock injectors.

>The turbo has a hard time spooling but the car pulls well when
>it finaly get around to it.

I don't think this is the "KIT"'s fault, check for boost leaks in unusual places... such as your TB-to-Plenium connection. Use clamps on ALL hoses and silicone sealant on all gaskets.

>I was told the turbo has a 5-6psi
>spring in the wastegate but I've hit 9PSI! NOTE MY CAR IS

Are you using a boost controller? Maybe you have a leak betweek the compressor and the wastegate actuator. Was the 9psi a boost SPIKE or is that the SETTING?

>Sorry Bill but I'm done with playin games.

Maybe I'm just playing devil's advocate but those issues seem minor. On top of that, you've built a custom engine and need to expect to modify Bill's parts (downpipe, manifold, etc.) to suit your specific setup. I hope things aren't as bad as they sound and I hope you get it performing good soon. Email me if you ever have any questions, as I have a lot of experience in custom setups using the T3 and T4 series turbochargers.

well here is my input from being personally there and helping with the install.
I have gotten a few things through bill and the product so far for me has been good.
But when I saw this "kit" it was nothing remotely even close to that.
the bends on the downpipe were very bad, we had to run to home depot to buy cupplers and fittings to connect the compressor to the intake manifold and rig up a mostly rubber tubbing conection.
there were no bolts to conect some of the pieces, so we had to make another run to get these, he was provided with a fuel gauge that is the size of a quarter, and reads in increments of 50 so there is no way you can tune with that... I know Michael took pictures and they will speak a lot better than anything I can write.

I know Bill is a good guy, and he has come thorugh for me, but in this instance (being the first kit) I really believe that for something of that cost you should not just put something together and hope it works, not when you have to pay that ammount of money to then go and spend a bunch more on fittings and bolts and lines, pipes, etc that should have come with the kit in the first place.
I hope you take this as some positive criticism Bill, (an hopefully as a way to improve on the kit) not trying to bash you as this is between you and Brian, just stating what we had to go through to get this thing to work.

First off, I would like to say me and babybeclipse were the first two people to pay Bill for turbo kits. Yes, he told us these were going to be a one stop solution offering everything we need to make our cars turbocharged. From what he told me, I expected little or no work needed to make these parts collaborate together (grinding, buffing, cutting, sanding, etc.). This was not exactly the case with the items I've recieved so far, but it was less than an hours worth of work.

Secondly, I will add that Bill (aka motofool) has taken his sweet time with my money (over 3 months since the final payment). I did not expect to have to wait this long, but thats not the heart of this issue. Thats ok.

I've recieved many of the parts already, but a lost UPS package containing my manifold has slowed this process down a bit. I will honestly say that the parts I have recieved for my kit seem to be quality parts. I will also add that babybeclipse did not recieve all the same parts as I did. Here are some (poor quality) pictures of some of the parts included so far...

Obviously nothing too fancy for the oil lines, but they SHOULD work. We'll have to see for sure though.

The powdercoating had to be sanded off to fit the TurboXS Type-RFL BOV. The I noticed the flange was welded on upside down. I did have to cut about 1/4" off the end of the flange for the BOV to seat correctly.

The SFMU packet was missing the 2.72" disc. This was not Bill's fault and he has sent me another package of discs/rings. Thumbs up for service on that one.

Version 2 Missing Link emoji

You can decide what you think. I just got my downpipe yesterday, and from what I can tell, it looks good. I may change my mind after I try to put it on. I'll let you know. That is all.

I agree there were problems with babyb's kit, but nothings perfect outa the box first shot...

there have been some very vast changes in the kit contents and parts...

the intake system was totally reworked and is getting revamped 1 more time to make everything right..

eclipse2nr has version 2 of the intake system which went together well and he seemed happy with the mandrel bent piping with black powdercoat...

when Me and Babyb started this and he knew he was getting a prototype and he by far did not pay full price.

As for the new kits they use a NEW Billet Aluminum fuel rail and all stainless lines in the engine bay. The rail has a port for the fuel guage(1/8npt) (most stage 1 guys are close to 100psi or above that is why the 0-200psi guauge was choosen but if thats not what people want ill swap it for a 0-100)

The aluminum Hardlines under the car round out the rest of the fuel system that was revamped..

The latest kits will be shipping with a HKS Standard BOV in lue of the Turbo XS RFL due to a few reasons 1 mainly being the universal fit of the hks flange.

The last few pieces that were upgraded are the T bolt clamps new 3 ply intercooler couplers, not Truck radiator hose like others use..

the new downpipes that come with the kits are Mandrel sectioned 2.5" witha flex section...

Some things havent been done in the best of ways in the past but everything has to start somewhere...

here is a link to some close to updated pics of a stage 1 kit (eclipse 2nr's)

old style downpipe pictured...(crush bent)
no fuel rail...

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.

Ok you guys can't knock on bill to much here. You have to rember that he is only ONE person. He is not STARR or HRC. They have a whole team of people doing what Bill is doing on his own. I personally know Bill and I know he is doing absolutly the best he can. Rember he is on his own here.

exactly. it might take him a little while to get an order together but he has 20 diffent things to do all at once. and his prices are so cheap, even if i had to spend another $300 to make every thing go together perfect, it would still be hundreds of dollars cheaper than i could have gotten it for somewhere else. he tries to hook people up for cheap instead of trying to make alot of money for himself.

Well in his defense I didn't have the greatest experience with Gottude either. I bought a clutch and my one day down time for the car turned into 2 weeks. It sucked and was very frustrating not getting the right parts. But I admit Bill was cool about it and did pull through and *hopefully* I'll receive the right parts soon. But don't tell this guy to stop bitching because it's not much of a deal if you pay less of a price for something and then get stuff that isn't even working out for you. I think it's well worth the price of an HRC kit if you know you'll at least be getting the right parts and doesn't require any fabbing.

i think that even if you spend alot of money for a top of the line product, you will still get parts that aren't quite right. my greddy header that i payed about $475 for, came with only one of the holes in flange lined up right. one of them was right on, one was 1/16" off, and the other two were 1/8" off. so even if you buy a part that is supposed to be the best it can still be imperfect.

You got a warped manifold too eh? I just helped my friend install his manifold and we did the rest of the turbo setup too. It is warped so bad the whole driver's side of the block was black within minutes. And this was supposedly a new manifold to replace the first one that was also warped. And the studs on the manifold were not long enough to even clear the turbo flange. They had to be cut off and new, longer ones welded on. I think you may need to talk to your supplier Bill and see what he's doing wrong.

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.

Alright, there seems to be some confustion. The Bill who you are referring to is not me. It's Bill, from GotTude. To clarify things, I am Bill, from GotTude. emoji Yes, there are two Bills there, and a Nick. That's not the point, though. We are moving much of the fabrication in-house (at my humble shoppe) in order to eliminate the production delays and any questionable quality that may have existed in the past. We are determined to make things right, and will do so, once we have everything worked out. We have a Tig welder already, and we are even learning how to use it. The learning curve is a little bit steep, but once we get the hang of it, the products will be of beautiful quality. I am also looking to get a bench sander to true the manifolds before they go out. The manifolds that were sent out that were warped were welded up on a head, which is why I am somewhat confused as to how they were warped. But regardless, no more manifolds will be shipped warped.
Great things ahead...

I don't know what was said back and forth between Brain and Bill, so I don't know how complete a kit was promised, if a bolt on kit was promised I'd be upset, which I know is what Brian expected, could have been some miscommunications. If there was an understanding of some custom work needing to be done or some filling in of the "kit" that would be fine. And something Brian didn't have the time for, which would have been his fault.

The downpipe was the biggest surprise, press-bent and a header flange was... a bit shocking, glad to hear there will be mandral bent downpipes. I can't say I was impressed with the quality, glad that part will not be used.

I suggest some nicer hose couplings.

The oil return line does not bolt on and a bracket on the turbo which had to be ground down.

The manifold was a nice piece. There was a lot to the kit just not enough, including the need for some instructions.

I wish i could have gotten a kit like this instead of an hrc kit. I have replace a lot of the stuff from the hrc kit and it was much more to begin with. I think this kit is a much better starting point, thier is a trade off thats all...

well the kit looks ok. looks like it might need a bit of work to pretty it up but it worx and that's what counts. Hah yeh every kit has got to have its ups and downs like stars goofy downpipe clearances and gay stage 1 piping and crummy instrucations O_o then there's HRC with their goofy fuel system (which I heard they fixed with some fancy gizmo) and weak downpipe. Haha then there's NER I don't even wanna get into that disapointment.

1500 bux for a stage 1 kit is pretty good though, if you can get it to work flawlessly for 1500 bux I think that's a steal. is that with ic? I think I got my stage 1 for 1800 during a group buy but... I added so much extra crap it wound up being like 2500 haha.

Just so you guys now. The reason I posted this was to let people know how my kit is working. I'm not out to talk shit or anything.

I just want others to know what they "could" be getting into.

I talked to Bill a couple days ago and assured me the other kits are supposed to be better. The above posted DP pic already looks better than what I have on my car.

I'll keep you guys posted.

A little update from me...

I got a few more packages from Bill. Got my billet fuel rail and all my lines. This rail is nice emoji. Always wanted a new fuel rail, and I bet this thing flows nice. Also has a test port right in the middle, for hooking up a FP gauge right to the rail. It's a great piece. The aluminum hardlines are what you might expect, and also have blue anodized connectors at each end. By the way, for the late fuel systems, the SFMU will be mounted in the engine bay, and new feed and return lines will be ran, with several braided hoses in the engine bay, which look great as well. If I purchased these fuel parts as just a fuel system upgrade, I would be quite impressed. Sorry the camera batterie is dead or I'd snap some pics up for you guys.

As for my manifold fiasco, still nothing yet. UPS has admitted to losing the manifold. Something even more interesting though...

The tracking website showed scans in Indianapolis, the last sorting facility packages go to before they are delivered to my house. When I called the security supervisor at UPS Indy, he said the package never even made it to Indiana. I said, "how can that be, theres Indianapolis scans on the tracking page?". He told me that those are "predicted scans". I was like, wtf? Predicted scans? That means when you guys are looking at your tracking info, most of the scans you see haven't even taken place yet. What a joke...

Anyway, I'm short a couple of brass connectors and a manifold. Overall, I'm happy with the matertials and parts used in Bill's stage 1 kit. Fit and finish are not exactly corporate, but I knew I wasn't ordering a kit from a corporation. As stated above, his new wastegate brackets have to have some griding to fit the oil drain flange. No biggie there, I actually cut the edge off with a hacksaw and it only took like 15 mins. Considering what I got with this kit, I'd say I got a great deal. Since I've been waiting for almost 4 months for my parts, my impression isn't exactly exstatic. I sit content at the moment, so long as I get a manifold very soon. I'll show you guys some more pics later on.

I'm sure that when Bill gets the TIG worked out the manifolds will look a lot more like this. A tig makes a huge difference.

That manifold is absolutely beautiful. How much does a setup like that run?

*smiles that is a nice manifold id like to pin that one against the directional style i offer.. (its beat equal length manifolds before..)

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

I was at the shootout, But we didn't have time to set up a booth. As for a custom manifold like that, It would cost you about 800 for me to build something like that. It is not a mass produced piece. That manifold made 820 HP on a T-72 without N2O.

Too bad i didn't find you guys there. Would have been nice to meet you. Ah well, next year.

I'd love to have a one-off piece like that, but coming up with the money is another story..
