Can you have detonation even if your EGT reads low temps such as shifting before it hit 1500F ??
Oh and I talked to a guy at UPRD about his fuel system, he has a fully built turbo neon. He suggested that I get rid of both the inline and stock pump...and just put in a 96-99 GST pump ?? He said that the stock pump is just used for loading the H-FI pump that HRC provides....and that the GST pump would provide more than enough load on its own and enough pressure with the FPR to compensate for boost?? I found the pump for 200...which I would be happy to pay, if I can avoide that damn fuel pump noise. Oh and he also suggested that if I insist on running the HRC pump to hook a DELL "Boost a pump" to it....from what Ive heard it provides more than enough fuel and current to run the pump with enought load and pressure by adding the BOOST. What do you guys think ???

I think we spoke on the phone today, yes? Perhaps it was someone else, but your questions seem familiar.
It is unlikely that your car is experiencing detonation at the EGT you describe, provided you are reading before the turbo and not after it.
Give your friend at UPRD another call and ask if he has actually tried this pump idea. I suspect not, due to the fact that the stock pumps have an internal relief circuit that will not allow the higher pressures that our systems require. In our GS-T and GS-X customers' cars, we recommend a fuel pump upgrade with any turbo upgrade for safety's sake, and that's at lower fuel pressures than your turbokit runs.....
As for the Boost-a-pump: no need at all! The flow of your HRC inline is quite adequate without increasing its voltage supply.
If the pump noise is annoying, I can recommend ways to quiet it down. It's worth the effort to keep the proven in-line: research the threads regarding pumps and fuel pressure in the archives if you wish to learn more about this important aspect. Give me a call on Tech Line for some input on making it quieter if you like!

I ran a '98 GSX fuel pump for 1 day while installing my turbo kit. Be careful, it DOES NOT pump enough fuel at high pressures. I am pretty sure that it may work alone for a low psi system, but for a stage II it is definitely not suitable. That's why 4G63 people change fuel pumps too. Remember at the horsepower to horsepower equivalent of stage II they need a new bigger fuel pump.

If a GST/X pump is so great, then I wonder why so many 4G63 guys replace their pump with the same Walbro pump that we use (or one of its variations) once they start adding more power adders... gotta question where this guys logic is...
