#53612, "ARGH cut fuel pump wire, now no more power to the fuel pump!!!"

so i was doing the accel inline pump thing. everything is hooked up following the hrc wiring diagrams, etc. i go to hook splice the 12v black with blue tracer wire to the pump relay. i cut the black/blue wire in half.

so once everything is connected, i turn the car on. the starter is fine, i can hear it. the fuel pump however can't be heard turn over therefore the car can't run!!! the starters fine.

i must have done something wrong while doing the accel fuel pump install.

will cutting the fuel pump wire (black and blue) and then hooking them up (not soldering yet) again-won't that still give power to the fuel pump?

anyone have any ideas. should i buy knew wires or something?

I would have to double check the color of the stock pump wire (black with blue sounds familar though) but that wire is just a signal for the relay in the HRC kit.

Basically, when you turn the key at the ignition, power is sent to the stock pump through the wire you tapped into (black/blue). The HRC kit uses this wire to tell the accel inline pump when to turn on and off. When the HRC relay sees power going to the stock pump, it then kicks on the inline pump but pulls all of its power from the battery. This is why you have to run another line from the battery with an inline fuse directly to the relay.

You don't want to be using the stock wiring to power to new inline pump. The wires/fuses can not handle the current.

Hope this helps,
Kurt

uber: i've been haviing soldering problems and hoped to do this later... thinking of it this sat would be the day

kurt: i think (like 90% sure) that all the wiring is correct. the inline pump is wired to the battery, the relay is hooked to the black/blue tracer wire at the fuel tank.

do you guys think that just cutting the black/blue wire will result in no "signal" to the intank fuel pump?

i guess i am trying to diagnose the problem right now.

The inline pump is hooded to the battery, the blue/black is hooked to the relay, what about any grounds were are they hooked up?What kind of relay are u using? IT sounds liek u got it hooked up wrong. One wire from the battery goes to the relay, another goes from the relay to the pump, another from the blue/black wire to the relay, relay to the ground, and i would splice the stock fuel pump ground in with the relay ground. It sounds like you hooked up the pump straight to the battery, and probaly blew a relay.
