#53608, "Anyone with HKS Type-1 Turbo Timer, Please Respond!"

Alright I just recently got around to hooking up my speed sensor wire on my HKS TT because I wanted to get an idea of my 1/4 by using the 1/4 timer on it. Anyway...I was wondering if the quarter mile timer was accurate at all? Has anyone ever used the timer and the taken it to the track to see if they match up?

If it is accurate then I just ran a 14.62 on the street while it was 69 degrees out. I know you get a lot more traction on the street than at the track but my clutch is slipping (new one goes in tomorrow emoji) so hopefully with a new one I can manage times close to this at the track.

Ugh, stupid piece of crap...

Nevermind, this thing can't be accurate. I just went out and tried again and got a better launch and shifted better and clicked off a 14.42. I don't think a stage 1 on 6psi can do that. Especially since my only other supporting mods are one range colder plugs and a 3" cat-back. Dammit, and I was so excited about hooking that thing up so I could get a somewhat accurate estimate of my times.

1) Traction at a track is far better. The VHT that they spray is VERY sticky. I have a friend who lost a flip-flop at the shootout, walking on the track after the racing was over. The flip-flop just stuck to the track. emoji

2) The type I is based on the wheels spinning a quarter mile. Wheelspin of any kind will fake it out, pretty hardcore, too. That's why I use the higher speed runs to figure out a power increase after a mod. It keeps things a lot more repeatable. I really like this timer, though.

Really? I was always told the track was slicker...hmmm. Anyway, you think these times are somewhat accurate then? I had little to no wheel spin off the line and only chirped when going into second thanks to my crappy clutch so wheel spin wasn't much of a problem.

It might wind up being slightly lower then your actual time, especially with the 2nd gear chirp. Try, next time you are at the track, running the 1/4 mile program on the TT. Compare it with your slip. Try different things, like a harder launch (slightly more spin), a soft launch, a hard shift, etc...

LOL... maybe at the good tracks, but not at New England Dragway. i've NEVER had a good launch at NED, but i always seem to be able to hook-up on the street. sometimes it seems like they hose the whole track down with water instead of VHT.

I guess this still isn't enough proof that a stage 1 can get into 14's?.. emoji
