#53277, "Inline fuel pump keeps blowing fuses - is it shot??? Help!"

Right now I am running HRC Stage 1, 5lbs. It is pretty much the same as it was sent to me from HRC except that I have the Missing Link. My cartech always holds steady pressure because I had it rebuilt, so I dont think there would be any problem with that. Today I was driving normaly, happily boosting, when suddenly I boosted and it chugged, like fuel cut. I pulled over, check the FP, and it was around 35psi. Quite lower then when it normaly is it at idle, about 55psi. I also noticed that my fuel pump wasn't singing its beautiful jet engine song that it normally does. So I adjusted the FP back to normaly and drove carefully home. Pulled the fuse for the pump and it was blown. Replaced it, started it up, fuel pump started singing again so I adjusted the FP back to normal, let it run, everything seemed OK. Went to drive it, boosted ok, then boosted again in it chugged. Pulled over AGAIN and checked it, low FP and blown fuse. Now WTF could be causing this?? Is the pump shot? Bad ground somewhere? Thanks for any help!

I guess the pump could be bad but personnaly I would think your power wire is grounding out somewhere.

I would trace the wiring for the fuel pump along its entire route. It could be shorting out somewhere. A 10 amp fuse should be enough for the pump, but IMO, put a 15 amp in there. Be sure there is no corosion on the terminals of the pump either. If all checks out ok, then it could be the pump.

Sure enough, the wire had melted and had grounded out against a hot bar behind the TB, same place where my o2 sensor wire had shorted and caused me to misfire. I ziptied the hell out of both of them now, so I should be straight. Thanks for all the help!

That happened to me in the middle of the night once and left me stranded until the next day when I could see and finally figured out it was a wire shorting on that stupid pipe. emoji
