x( ....pulled the turbo and took it appart for shits and giggles to see if it was the turbo that was causing all the oil burning...and here is what i find...

my question....HOW does a turbo die in 1,500 miles???? it was always timed and i didn't abuse it...there is hardly any shaft play but its obviously blown....next question...where can i get a good rebuild kit??

hmm, has me stumped, a turbo needs to be balanced when reassembled, i would send it into someone who specializes in t series.

The only thing that really can kill a turbo is lack of oil/oil pressure, or a plugged oil return line..Def double check your oil feed and drain lines for ANY issues, before the new turbo is on..

>...there is hardly any shaft play but its obviously blown

Did you check both sides for play. On a mitsu turbo - I think the only thing keeping lots of oil out of that cup is the turbine side main bearing. Looks like you have lots of oil coming out of the cup...so - check the turbine side for shaft play.

>....next question...where can i get a good rebuild kit??

Got mine from Turbo City. http://www.turbocity.com/TurboRepairKit.htm If you do repair it yourself - make sure to mark the compressor and turbine wheels at dissasembly for alignment during reassembly.

Good luck.

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

someone told me that you should let your car warm up before you beat on the turbo because the oil needs to get warm. just a thought that someone told me. i dont know if it is true or if it even matters.

There are many things that can kill a turbo. Not priming is the first mistake that some people make. If a turbo is not primed, it can die within a few miles. Another big mistake is running a good turbo on a newly rebuilt motor. Newly rebuilt motors have a lot of shavings running around in the oil. Turbos do not like shavings. Low oil pressure is the next common cause of failures. The last common cause is trash going through theturbine wheel or the compressor wheel. This will eff up the blades something fierce. Effed up blades are out of balance and can destroy seals and bearings in the turbo, giving it an early death. Turbochargers are complex, easily killed pieces of equipment, and one can never be too careful in caring for them.

By the way, a bum oil return line will cause a turbo to smoke, but typically won't kill the turbo. The same symptoms can be seen if the oil return line is draining below the oil level in the pan. Check this first.
