back in december i got a star stage 1 turbo kit and a starion intercooler with custom piping- i got it installed at a shop called Hocus Pocus in Houston... long story short, they fucked up hardcore and i took it to another shop to have it fixed and sent an $1100 bill to Hocus... either way, my car should arrive here in NY (it was shipped) on monday and i have to drive it home... i'm starting to get worried because i just read a couple of scary posts about people blowing their motors fairly soon after going turbo... i'm running low on cash, but i'm sure i should rebuild... my question is- does anyone know of any reliable pistons/rods that are a little cheaper, and what compression ratio to go with...i know that boost makes more power than compression, but i don't want the car to feel sluggish when i'm not hitting boost... i've also heard of people getting new bearings when doing a rebuild, does anyone know where i can find some?

Don't worry about it. If you keep the boost at a reasonable level (5-7PSI) you will be okay.
You can get piston, rod, and ring sets, .002 over, at hahn racecraft for about $1500. Oh yeah, and what did they fuck up? I was going to have my car on thier dyno for tuning my injectors and safc, but when i asked the guy about tuning the safc, the reply was, "Uhhhh.... i think we can do that."
A little too uncertain for me. I ain't going there..

well, the intercooler piping that they set me up with was too big- so boost came on really late, close to 4k...on top of that the piping was really shittily put together- there were multiple 90 degree bends...the blow off valve was under the car- it was weird...the intercooler hose kept coming off; basically, it was crap. on top of that they hooked up my turbo timer wrong, and if that weren't enough, they hooked up the vc1 wrong... but that's not all...they gave me a load of bullshit and told me that i shouldn't rush them because "it would suck to get an oil leak"...guess what happened? oil leak coming right off the oil pan...i ended up needing a new pan- they charged me for one, and it turned out that they didn't give me a new pan, they just put some silicone sealer over the hole- it ended up leaking again... on top of that they didn't install support brackets for the intercooler- they just let it sit on two large bolts, and those bolts ended up rubbing two large holes in the intercooler- making it so that i couldn't make any boost at all... i hate them. they suck. tell everyone you know to tell everyone they know NOT to go to them... they kept my car for over 2 months and still couldn't get my car working because they didn't give a fuck- because i didn't have a high priced supra and don't make lots and lots of money... but this new shop, Dealership Alternatives, is badass...the mechanic who worked on my car, Gene, showed me a motor from a 911 carrera that got a RUF 911 turbo conversion worth 60k...the guy does a shitload of good work... i have yet to see my car, but he told me that he only used two pieces of piping, with minimal bends- the way it should be done either way, i'm running 7 lbs right now... i'm just scared i'll blow my shit and not have a car... what about Arias pistons? or Cunningham rods? any help is Much appreciated... thanks

I suggest you stay at the low end...4-5psi. In our engines in stock form, 1psi makes a difference!! Stay at 4-5psi for at least 3,000-5,000 miles. Then up it to 6 or 7 if you would like. But no higher then that.
