#52362, "Attn: CORBIN and others... SAFC on turbo 420a, YES or NO?????"

Okay, im looking for a definative answer (as close to one as possible) about the pros/cons of using an SAFC to fine tune fuel with on a turbo'd 420a.

Okay, SAFC advances timing, correct? This is bad for turbo, correct?
So, is there a benefit to using it? Is it okay on low psi boost(8psi) vs. high (more than 8psi) psi boost?

Corbin, does it still advance the timing when used inconjuction with your FTSAFC mod? if so is it enough to worry about?

SO, use SAFC on turbo'd 420a or no???

The SAFC is fine as long as you aren't leaning it out something crazy... If you are using it to just fine tune (+/- 10% or so), you won't see any timing advance. You just have to decide what you are going to do with it. Hope that helps...

And I imagine with an MSD adjustable ignition timing, you could easily compensate for any timing advancing caused by the safc.

if you got a good fpr like the super fmu you really want to use that to 'set' your fuel with.. say you get some 440cc injectors you want your car to idle nice with no or very little afc tweaking. you really want to set your idle fp with 440cc injector pretty low and use the afc for very very small tweaking. dont be stupid and have a sucky fpr, and lean out your afc -30 you want to keep it well below -10 if that.
good luck

What he said. It can handle high boost as long as you tune it properly.

Same as everyone else...If you must use it, just keep the adjustments small. Large adjustments will screw with your timing. That applies whether you use it "as is" or with the "FTSAFC mod".

I use mine in conjunction with the SFMU and the 440's. I put in the smalest disk and set the idle at 11-12psi. and just sat back and watche the car choke and rumble as the ecu learned and leaned out.
then when the ecu could do no more i leaned out some more with the safc until it idled nicely.
my settings for LOW are all at -10% (should not go any higher than that)
I don't have an ignition retard device either.

I have that exact set up but have not datalogged.
I don know that it idles rich at about 11-12 psi and I do have to do some compensating.
whe i took the block appart for the rebuil I did notice however that due to the low fuel pressure the injectors were not spraying in the ideal conical shape. so at idle your spray will not be the ideal shape due to the low press. but once you get on it it will be fine.
once she gets broken in I will datalog her.
