#51217, "Placement of inline fuel pump"

I have a MSD inline pump. Does it need to be placed before the stock FPR or Vortech FMU? That is the only other thing that I can think of inorder for the car to keep running like crap.

Built 420a
NER turbo kit T3/T04s ball bearing
AFX UDP
Crane 0014 cams

An inline pump should be between the fuel filter outlet, and the fuel rail's inlet. Then, from the fuel rail, should be the FMU, then the stock FPR.

why would you have the stock fuel pressure regulator in there at all? wouldn't it just screw up the system?

If you are using regular FMU(NOT a SFMU), then there is no idle fuel pressure adjustment on the FMU. This is why you need to retain the stock FPR. The FMU only controls fuel pressure under boost. The FMU will shut off fuel flow back to the tank, thus increasing fuel rail pressure/flow under boost. How much fuel flow is cut off, determines your fuel pressure at the rail. When under boost, the stock FPR has no effect on boosted fuel pressure.

So what you are saying is that the inline pump is aft of the fuel filter and before the fuel rail.

That's how I have everything set up. I just mounted the pump by the firewall beacuse there was no room under the car by the fuel filter with the FMU being there.

I still can't imagine why it idles like ass. It's very choppy. I didn't think the Crane 0014 cams were that aggressive.

Maybe I just have some bad gas in the tank. After all, the car has been sitting for about 4 months!

I have everything installed like you guys have said. I know i do, I've checked and rechecked. The only thing I don't have hooked uip is the FCD because I ordered the Missing Link 003 and it hasn't come in yet. That wouldn't have any affect on the idle though, right?

No, that wont effect the idle. IMO, you should do two things: check your idle fuel pressure for the hell of it(get a gauge, you really need one), and check your cam timing marks. With the cams in there, it wont idle like stock, but it still should be decent..it will prob be lumpy, and surge a little..

Also do a compression test, just to rule that out..thats easy and takes only a few minutes.

Yeah, if you don't a fuel pressure gauge on there, get on - and make it permanant as well. I'd bet your idle FP is off a little and that's why your running rough. But hey, look on the bright side - at least you got it started.

OK. I got a fuel pressure guage on there now and it's reading over 100 psi at idle! What would cause this? I have everything installed correctly as you guys have showed me in previous posts.
