Ok, I have the HRC Stage 2 kit....well the other day I was boosting and a female friend in the car behind me said there was black smoke coming out of my tail pipe. She said it wasn't a whole lot, but was visible. I didn't notice a decrease in boost when that happened, but I remember black smoke is a BAD thing. As I haven't visited these boards and kept up to date on such things, could someone please tell me again what that means? Thank you in advance emoji emoji

black smoke is better than white/blue smoke!!!

Black smoke is just extra gas. It simply means your running too rich. depending on your boost levels and egt readings you may have to run a bit rich to keep your egts down. do you have an egt gague? If not get an egt gague and a digital a/f gague. For A/F i recommend the apexi turbo timer, its only $100 and gives you a digital readout of your O2 sensor voltage, your actual A/F (~14.7:1), and will monitor your car and run it automatically until it cools the turbo down. its a great unit! If your seeing black smoke when your not boosting you may have the static fuel pressure too high.

Sounds like you just need more fuel tuneing. you can tune that cartech fpr and tweak it perfect, but its going to loose its setting the next time you start your car. get a vortech sfmu, its quality. Also don't run more than 7 psi on stock injectors. No matter what hahn says those stock injectors (and all injectors IMO) max out at 100 psi. throw some 330 cc/min in there if you want more boost and a nice idle. dont run any more than 8-9 psi on the stock motor.

just tring to keep you from making the mistakes I made after I installed my hahn kit emoji

yea, youre right etx. my stockers max out at about 100 psi. thats the absolute max they are good for.

definately get the vortech sfmu. its 100x better than the cartech. that is, unless adjusting your fuel pressure every time you start the car is your thing.

And it looks a lot cooler too if you've got a nice engine bay. The Cartech one looked like it was going to abduct someone and fly back into outer space.
