if you're thinking about the 2.5" ERT downpipe that JasonESI_T and XtreamRS tested, i'm pretty sure they're on an indefinate hold. i've heard that ERT is putting their resources into the downpipes for the turbo V6 Avengers. so i guess you could say that us 2gnt'ers have been forgotten about for the time being.

someone should really call up Gary at Howell and suggest that he produce a downpipe. i'd imagine that a "large" company like AF/X Manufacturing and Howell both have the resources needed to spend the inital cash required to produce a downpipe, then make up for it later after they make a profit.

i don't know why HRC hasn't made a downpipe of their own. sure, it would make the kits more expensive, but that's a hit that i'd be willing to take. kind of like if they added a missing link, the S-FMU, and a set of 30# injectors to their stage 1 and 2 kits.

but hey, i'm just an ameature.

for now, i'll just deal with my ghetto exhaust system. when i get the cash floating around, i'll just go to a muffler shop and have them take a piece of 3" aluminized steel and have them press-bend me a downpipe. i'll get it ceramic coated somewhere else, and that'll be good enough for me.

yeap, the ert pipe is definately on hold. if im not mistaken, the prototype is still on someones car lol. its going to be a looooong time before they go into production. if they do...

if someone came up with some good downpies though, there is definately a market for them.

No, I think he's talking about HRC. Bill mentioned something about making some "killer dp" in a post not too long ago. It was in reference to the new stages he's putting together. I haven't heard anything besides what was in that thread - sorry.

Bill, you around?

there were some new downpipes made for the HRC cars but u guys felt they were too expensive and ripped the guy a new one on how this was bad and so was that...

so he decided to not make them....

on the ERT downpipes they are on hold due to the fact they are working on the v6 turbo kits that annihlated the trannies..

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

I had a downpipe made and it came out amazing, 2.5", two piece, mandrel bent with lazer cut flanges, stainless flex section and a divit that makes puting on the bottom bolt easy as well as taking it off. I also had a jig made for it so I could have them mass produced. But keeping the price the same as ERT....I would have sold 15+ to break even. If I could sell them for around $350. I could have them made but otherwise it is a waste of lots of time and money.

no matter how you look at it 350 it a little outragous for a DP... if it was 250 then i'd drop the money...but for 350 i could get the guy at the muffler shop make one just as good for that price....

i think we need to realize it may be a high price overall. look at RRE site or ask any person who makes dp for a car. for example, the hrc dp is called a o2 housing and the bottom stock part is called the dp. if you look at RRE site or ask any well know turbo/muffler guy who knows his stuff they will refer to the upper half of the so called dp the 'o2 housing ' and the bottom as the dp. and to let you know the 'dp' for the gst/x is $250 alone.. this is just a example so dont get all made. i now understand why it cost so much to make one or just a few at very good qualityyy. if you think 350 is expensive go try welding a outstanding o2 housing ( which is very hard on our cars) and a dp ( which is pretty easy ) and you will realize its pretty hard.
dont be mad be glad.. hehe.. really i agree i would 'hate' to spend 350+ for a o2 housing and dp but hey its not easy to make it.
oh yah and mandrel bend.

i own a 4g63 and i don't even consider the 02 housing part of part of the DP.... the 02 housing is the 02 housing...and DP is the dp.... and a dp is under 200 bucks for the gst/gsx... i know i just bought a new one with in the last yr..... As for the hrc it's only a DP there is no 02 housing on the kit.... yes there is a 02 port for the 02 sensor..... but if you have ever seen a 02 housing you would know what i am talking about..... When building a part for a kit you can't try and get your money back for production on the first few.... You must look at how much of a demand there is for the product and how much it takes to fabercate and then come up with a price.... you don't just make 15 for 350 buck each and then when others want it again and the manufacter gives it for 150 bucks each and then you still sell them for 350...... this is not a game to rip off 2gnters...we are not dealing with apc or machv.... we are trying to help each other out when it comes to things like this.....JMO

hell, i'm almost at the point where i'd fork over $350 for a real downpipe. i'm so sick of the phony HRC one that's ghetto weleded to my dented stock downpipe (from the previous owner running over a stop sig emoji)

I'm still not quite sure why U guys dont' just have one made locally. I mean, I paid 200 bucks for my 2.75 in downpipe. I'm sure that if I had a HRC kit I would still take it the guy and have him make a better setup for me. I have heard tons of complaints on the DP from HRC. For someone to make one and be profitable it will have to cost over $300 shipped. That is just a fact.
So the solution here is quit whining about 'why has someone not made a better one' and nut up and just get it made yourself.
Yes my DP may not be 'stainless, 3" with a flex section', but I would still be willing to bet that it flows better than the stock HRC one.
Im not hacking on anyone in particular, just being logical. So don't take any offence to this.

Here is a pic of my dp before i painted it with the copper spray a gasket. With the heat on it it turned a nice grey and has not flaked off or anything.

true

and a dp is under 200 bucks for the gst/gsx... i know i just bought a new one with in the last yr.....
what kind? what is it made out of how was it welded etc etc? all of this comes into place for price. if you can get it for under 200 great... the cheaper you can get a outstanding dp the better.

As for the hrc it's only a DP there is no 02 housing on the kit.... yes there is a 02 port for the 02 sensor..... but if you have ever seen a 02 housing you would know what i am talking about.....
i understand... but what 'most' people call the top half of the dp is the o2 housing ( in general )...maybe not for us but in general.

When building a part for a kit you can't try and get your money back for production on the first few.... i love to help people out if i can. but hey you got to make a little money to cover the time and money you invested in this thing. if people or a company wants to stay alive and all you got to make some profit.
anyways my point was just to let some people know what the overall differece is. when i get my car running i plan on getting a dp made for a cheap price for myself!
have a nice day

I'm just gona get one made hopefully before Summer Slam. I might still use the HRC upper and have the lower opened up to 2.5" and get rid of the dreadful bend by the oil pan.

How on earth do you get away with that dp without a flex section? The first time you go to start your engine and the motor mounts shift your going to bust that weld wide open or worse ... your turbo housing.

I'm taking my ghetto setup to have welded tomorrow (failed inspection), but I've got to get something made up custom. That dp kills have the purpose of the turbo. Whoever said it^^^, your right, it's a shame HRC doesn't develop something since they have a reliable turbo kit. They'd make a killing on all of us dying to get a decent dp.

yeah, i haven't heard of many major issues regarding the star downpipe and it breaking. i hear it's a bitch to install, and the manifold cracks if you're unlucky, but i'm guessing that there's enough play in the exhaust system with the rubber hangers and such to allow for enough movement so that things won't break. although, i bet a flex section would make a downpipe easier to install.

I just got a quote yesterday for a 2.5" downpipe with flanges. $125 installed. The only thing is that is without a flex section. I am running with 3 solid mounts so i dont have much engine movement.
