#50539, "Stage I HRC turbo and 89octain"

Quick question, i have about a full tank of 89 octain gas in my talon right now, and im in the middle of installing my Stage 1 HRC turbo. Is it ok to run with this gas, or is there some trick to siphon the gas, i bought a siphon kit, but it doesnt quite reach the tank.

just use the gas up. when you get to like half tank just add the higest octane to bring the octane level up more. that or octane booster. no need to waste gas. dont boost super high also. a few psi or what not is cool.
good luck

No the turbo goes to no one emoji , I can't get the syphon down into the tank though. The tube that leads to the tank from the very beginning were you first stick the syphon in snakes to much and I can't even get the syphon tube into the tank. What should I do? Should I just drive with 89 octane and then fill it up at half a tank with super and just take it easy untill I know that it is all super?

I agree with ^^^ Just take it easy on the first half tank and then fill it up with some high octane.

hmm, you could do that... if worse comes to worse just take out the back seat and syphon directly out of the tank?

Where would I syphon it from if I took out the back seat? Take out the fuel pump? I want to syphon it out but I can't the syphon down to the tank.

Yes, remove the fuel pump (passenger side panel) and syphon it out of there.

Personaly I would have just put a bottle of NOS Octain boost (race) in the tank.

nos octane boost will raise it to about 89.1 . pour some toulene in there, that'll raise the octane. search for a post about toulene to fuel ratios. you should be fine after that.

dude you guys make it sound like his car will blow up with 89 octane. just leave it alone or add octane booster. i used only 91 octane
( ca highest ) for 2 yrs about 17,000-18,000miles boosting 9-12psi daily and nothing happen to me. i doubt 100-150miles of 89 octane with low boost will hurt you. the only reason my car is not running now is because my 12psi on stock bottom end for some time did not help.
good luck

stage one is like 3-5psi, right? you should be fine. if you really get worried get a longer piece of hose and use it to syphon. i had to syphon diesel fuel out of a backhoe with a 9ft long water hose. Liquids flow to areas of high pressure to low pressure, o just blow really hard into the hose after its in the fuel cell and make sure the other end of the hose is below the level of the fuel cell and you should be fine. *Note any type is fuel tastes like crap so dont leave your mouth on the hose for tooo long.

I also think you really need to syphon the gas out. Just drive the car around town in stop and go traffic--just don't boost. When the gas it a bit low, fill it up with 93-94 octane or race gas (C-14 or C-16). Plus, even if you boost 3-5 psi for a short time with 89 octane, I don't believe that will hurt anything. Just don't "break in" the new turbosystem too aggressively until you can bring up the octane rating. Just my thought though emoji

Yes. I will agree. I did the same thing you are going though. I had regular in the tank when we installed my kit. Heard detonation. So I just drove and drove (not boosting) and just waited till my gas started going down. Filled it back up with 93 or 94. Yadda yadda yadda...... basically, dont boost it until you fill up with 92-94 gas because you will get detonation.

89 octane? all i can say is why, why would you do that to your poor baby lol just kidding...throw an octane booster in and screw the check valve on your fpr all the way in

trust us guys who cant run on anything but 91 (ca is shitty like that) you wont cause detonation just dont boost...much, besides its only a stage 1

um.. turbo8u, first off octain booster will do little to nothing. When they claim 6 points it would be 91.06. If you had straight 91 octane. and with no intercooler and stock injectors your pushing it imo.

BTW this is a pretty old thread.

in CA where i live they dont even sell anything higher than 91 octane... i drove 8 months on my stage 1 at 91 octane and 130,000 miles on my car and it runs strong as hell. i think i'd know about the fuel thing

old thread? oh wells, it might help someone else out...just my .02
