#50363, "EGT gauge ????"
Jun-11-03 07:29 PM by yellowRS

I just got my autometer egt gauge. The needle is sitting on 150 degrees in the package. Is this normal? Shouldn't it be on zero if it isn't hooked up? Also I am NT and have a header, is there any problems or tricks I need to know before installing the probe??
Thanks
Jesse

it being on 150 shouldnt be a problem. when i turn my car off, mine doesnt go back to zero all the time. but as soon as i crank it up, it swings back to zero, then works its way up as the temp. increases. only trick i can give ya is tap the runner on the exhaust manifold thats on the farthest drivers side. goodluck with it.

Yeah, its an electronic gague so it only functions when its got power. Im sure it ended up there from being bumped while shipped. Note on that egt gague / probe. If your like me you got the cheap one, About $120 for the gague and probe combo. Well i got the shitty probe and all it did was fool me into thinking my egt's were at safe levels. They were not at safe levels. Once you get it in you may see some lag in the needle responce. If you do i would return it and get the good probe or order the probe from teamrip.com for $45. I got the team rip probe and it fits in the same tap as the AM probe and outputs the same signal, so you can wire it up to the AM gague. The good probe from autometer is about $120 by itself. But this team rip one works just as well im sure, i can't see an egt probe reacting any faster than this one does! good luck

i ordered my egt gauge as well. i'll probably end up selling the probe on ebay, then getting the teamrip probe.
