ok here is everything i want out of a kit but i need to make sure im not gonna have any compatibility problems or any other ones. i know i dont want the hahn kit because i want the T3/T04E. i also want the chrome pipes, but i plan on getting a FMIC right after i get the kit. but...i want the hahn FMIC and the hahn fuel system. the star system scares me, so could i boost 10psi on the star kit safely if i was using the hahn fuel pump? and are there any pipes out there already that i could fit the Apex IC to the star compressor and from the apex FMIC to the TB? now i also considered the new edge kit, but i know for a fact i dont want the spearco FMIC, that thing looks hideous (yah i know its a great IC but im all about looks too). also i dont know what the piping is on the new edge kit, chrome or powder. i have seen the NER price lists though, they are good, but a little higher than was rumored. so i guess ill be stuck buying the star stage one (or NER stage one depending on the piping and how good its fuel system is, i dontknow anything about the accel pump) and then coupling that with the hahn fuel system (its just the pump right) will this work?
then i gotta buy the apex FMIC from hahn and figure out the piping puzzle...will any of the star/hahn IC pipes fit from the hahn IC to the star turbo or will i have to custom bend them all?

or shaun, can you get me the apex FMIC with the NER stage one? i would need to buy it later as an upgrade though, if you can provide the piping and that IC i will no doubt go with your kit. and are your pipes gonna be chrome (or can they be for extra?)

Shaun would be a good person to work through a combination kit, I would think. The only significant difference int he fuel systems of each kit is that the HRC kit uses a fuel return line and an inline fuel pump. Otherwise, if you're so inclined to get the STAR system, have at it. Just use an inline fuel pump and and obtain the necessary fittings and lines to create a fuel return line. (service fuel fitting, fuel injectiosn hose, aluminum fuel line, hose clamps...etc.)
Other than that, do you think your internals can handle 10 psi and close to 300 HP with a T03/04E? (you make the call)

nah i dont think they can and im not gonna take my chances with it, i was jsut curious if adding hahns fuel system to the star compressor would allow one to boost hahn psi numbers (10) on the star compressor. would it still be a bad idea to boost 10psi if i went ahead and replaced the injectors? i still think it would be a risk with the stock bottom end

What if I get the Hahn Inline fuel pump with the Walbro Intank fuel pump that came with the Star?? And use them together. Will that make it that much safer to boost??

Just curious, why do you want a T03/T04E anyway? As in, personal preferences for it. If you are just wanting a larger turbo, do not forget HRC can hook you up with the S20G, S20G-BB, S20G-H, or S20G-N. The last two are pretty big and not really worth it without built internals, but they look sweet.

well i have heard nothing bad about it first, second i know it can handle what ill be throwing at it over the next two years, up to 450HP i hope (you may doubt ill take it this far but look at my other stuff, i cant help myself from spending money on the car, its everything but the fastest now) and the open wastegate was the other main factor in me not wanting the hahn kit. plus i like the location that the star turbo hangs. i wish hahn sold this setup cause id rather buy from hahn any day of the week but they dont, so im stuk making a compromise.

Dude, i have the star stage 2 with the e trim option. I just blew my engine and it has about 70,000 miles on it. I was running at 6 lbs of boost. Granted, I only had my boost guage hooked up at the time but in my own defense, people were hanging around 7-9 lbs of boost with my same set up. It sounds like you want a lot of horse 300+. Hahn has a car in the 11's with over 400 ponies What does star have? The point is this, if you are going on the road less traveled for super high output, then go with the company that is already there and can tell you exactly what you need. They blew up a car in their research to figure out what the stock internals could handle. Obviously they are serious about tunning our cars. If I could do it all over agian I would give blood, do a garage sale, kiss my sister or whatever to get that stage 4 dealy. If you do decide to go with star i think they are coming out with a better kit with more options. I'd wait for that. I could be wrong of course, Corbin our board Mcguiver sounds like has made progress with tunning his star kit. Good job dude.

I hate to say it again but a turbo kit just doesn't blow your car up. a) components failed b) ran kit beyond fuel systems limitations c) too much power for engine to handle d) faulty/worn engine. Except for a) and possibly d) its YOUR responsibility to make sure the other stuff is okay. It YOUR engine and YOU who will be paying for a new one no matter who told you it was safe and reliable. Your engine can be running like a top normally aspirated but a few boosted high rpm blast from self destruction (this is what we call "shit happens" a few off tolerances here a weak seal there. shit that wont be detected until its too late). I can count numerous people who blew their 420A engines with fairly low miles and normally aspirated (usually related to spun bearings) so its foolish to think your playing on the conservative side because you are running a modest 5psi or so of intercooled boost and rich. I know people have run long periods with turbos on stock bottom ends (although Jason is the only one that comes to mind and stage 1 for the most part at that) but really its not that common to run yrs of trouble free motoring with a turbo on a stock bottom end and stock compression. Sooner or later there's usually a blow up story. I'm not saying dont get a turbo and put it on a stock bottom end but generally you should be making order plans for those pistons and rods ect so by the time it happens your not screwed. When I spun my bearing my pistons, rings, block and head ect were already laying around for months. And I'm getting ready to start collecting parts again incase it happens again or my stock rods want to let loose. I'm willing to bet you a yr or two from now 90% of everyone who's turbo'd now will have internals and those who dont will be the recent turbo purchasers. Of all that useless rambling I just did that no one really listens too just remember this "shit happens" (and you'll usually be better off after the initial "aw f*ck").
And for cyan all I got to say is "custom turbo". Cause Hahn and Star aint Burger King you cant have it your way (well you can just not directly through them). As for the intercooler piping, the upper intercooler pipe will be the same (your intercooler outlet and throttle body location wont change no matter what turbo kit you have). so if you buy brand X kit and want Brand Y intercooler buy the intercooler piping too, you'll only need to change the lower piping.

first, youre saying that all intercoolers have the same outlet location? i didnt think this was the case, ive seen several with outlets on different sides, at different heights, or with different curvatures...i know my throttle body isnt moving but the IC outlet will be different on the star FMIC, the apex/hahn FMIC and the NER Spearco FMIC right?
second...i dont completely understand the whole spun bearings thing...is this just one of those "oh shit" things that cant be prevented? i mean, if i build the internals will that lessen the chance of bearings being spun? i dont understand exactly what it means but id like to be educated...

No all intercoolers dont have the same outlet however if you put a hahn intercooler on a star kit the (hahn) outlet pipe will still fit. MWC has a HRC turbo and had a starion intercooler. I have his old intercooler. Had he still had the upper intercooler pipe it would still fit my car because the intercooler outlet and throttle body would be in the same location regardless of which kit it was on. Since the turbo's aren't in the same location I would not have been able to use his lower pipe. The only reason I can see it not fitting is if the air filter is in the way but you have plenty of adjustability with the filter location sliding it closer or farther from the turbo. Spun bearings is just a little something that has happend to about a dozen or so of us. Speculated to be caused by (what I've heard so far): 1)shitty factory bearings 2)low oil 3)shitty factory rod bolts that stretch 4)user overheating bearings from excessive high rpm abuse. I've only heard of one neon that rebuilt and had it happen again. (I know skrilla, myself, eric r, kiku and more have had this happen). The best thing to do is keep an eye on the oil and not worry about it. If you do ever rebuild Clevitt 77 bearings are available and cheap at howell automotive and aftermarket rods come with ARP bolts or you can upgrade factpry rod bolts (I dont think thats the problem. i speculate shitty bearings).

something i forgot, when i blew up - i was probably pinging. I usually shifted at 5500 rpms when i raced people, but i really wanted to hurt the vr6 so i went all the way to 7000 in 2 gears. My exhaust is really loud so i couldnt hear the pinging if there was. I think i need a external fuel pump to address this problem but im going to research it further. If this rings a bell for anybody feel free to chime in.
