Hmm I'm not sure what section to put it in but since probably less people have turbo timers /w alarms I'll put it in the turbo section. anyway I recently got an Audiovox Prestige car alarm installed because some holigans broke into my car a week ago, but it won't work with my HKS Type 1 turbo timer. When I take the key out for the timer to start counting down it would just turn off and not arm itself even if I put it in passive mode because you have to open and close the door while the car is off to get it to auto arm itself.

Then I read a mod saying that you can tap the ignition sensing wire from the alarm to your accessory wire and it will let you arm it while its counting down. I tried it out but uh oh my turbo timer counts down with the accessories running. So I thought hmm how can I cut the power out so it'll let me arm it. So I ghetto rigged a switch to the igntion wire going into the Accessory wire. So when I turbo time the car I just flip the switch off, get out of the car and arm it. That's it

haha but I have to make sure to turn it back on before I start the car but its cool I put the switch right next to my harness lock switch hehe. My car is starting to look like an airplane cockpit

As for the audiovox alarm its ok I guess, it got all the basic features you want and I got power locks installed woohoo! It sure has a goofy procedure to change options. and the remote is hecka weak you have to practically be next to the car to arm or disarm it. Is there a way where I can get more range like getting another remote or something?

That sounds cool man. Those switches start to add up after a while. I had this truck once and it definately was lookin like an airplane cockpit by the time I was done with it.

About the distance thing - didn't your alarm come with an antenna lead? I have an AutoCommand remote car starter and the antenna is external to the unit. It plugs into the main unit with a RCA type plug. I used to have the antenna just all jumbled up and shoved under the dash(where the main unit lives), but it was bad cause just like you're noticing you had to be right on top of the damn thing in order for it to work. So I routed the antenna lead(it is about 4' long) up the a-pillar, then across to the rearview tucked under the headliner. The antenna tip comes out right in the middle and I taped it to the back of the mirror. It works great now. I can start my car from almost anywhere in my house - upstairs, downstairs, through the walls and everything.

the clicker range gets shorter the older the battery. Put a new battery in your clicker and the range will improve.

I guess i was just lucky, or had very intelligent installers, because i bought my car with a Prestige/Audiovox alarm. I installed my GReddy Turbo Timer (a year after Thura bought it as my b-day present) with a standard Greddy DSM harness, and it worked perfectly from the start. It turns off accessories such as my radio and cigarette lighter when i take the key out, but the car runs, the fans work, the afc stays on, etc, etc. Only thing that does not work is the auto-arm on my alarm. Once the timer finishes and the car turns off, the alarm won't arm on its own, and i can't manually arm it while it is counting down. I did find a mod using a normally closed SPST relay on the alarm's ignition wire, but i couldn't find the right relay after a quick perusal of RadioShack, so i just decided to live with it. Normally closed on the alarm ignition voltage lead, turbo timer's voltage feed to the ignition wire activates the relay and breaks the alarm's ignition voltage circuit, making it think the car is off, allowing it to autoarm. May or may not work as intended..

I don't believe it works if your alarm looks for a door to open and close before it arms. I have my alarm set up so that it won't arm until the engine times out. But, it waits for a door to open and then close after that. So, its pointless since I've already exited the car by time the engine times out. The only solution I can think of is to come up with a timer circuit to trick the alarm into thinking a door was opened and then closed, a preset time after the engine times out. Designing that circuit isn't exactly a priority.

My alarm can be "fixed" by the install shop to arm at any time regardless of doors or otherwise. They want to charge me $50 to switch it out though and that ain't happening. Plus the shake of the motor just might set it off.
