#50034, "Can someone give me their opinion on this Spearco FMIC?"

I wanna get an FMIC for my turbo setup that I'm building, but I don't need an obnoxiously large one or anything. A friend recommended Spearco and I looked on ebay to see if any decent ones were up, and I saw this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=2417981613

Anyone used Spearco before? Would you recommend this FMIC or not?

Thanks for any help,
Corey Primrose

You said you don't want one that is obnoxiously large. Do you realize that the IC pictured there is 30" long from tank to tank, and 3" thick? It's a fairly sizable IC.

Piping will also be a bit harder to run with that IC because of the inlet and outlet layout. You'll have to run a pipe across the top, which means you'll probably have to trim the hell out of the 5mph bumper.

For $450, though, i'd make sacrifices. That's a nice IC.

Heh, I wasn't even thinking when I looked at the size emoji

I think that one might fit what I'm looking for a bit better. What do you think?

Alright, changed my mind again. I looked at the Sparco listings and found what I think would be my dream FMIC assembly.

3.5"D x 18.48"W x 6"H (#2-221)

Retails for about $650-700, and handles up to 760 hp. Not bad, considering that's about $300 less than I originally had planned. Still have to hack the 5mph bumper all to hell, though...

I was planning on getting one of these.

I haven't been inside my bumper lately, but is there no way to run a pipe in each side of the front even if you clock the turbo (for the HRC kit)? If not this puts my plans in the shitter. emoji

THat's why when I sell an intercooler from the junkyard I always put something you can put as a frame of reference like a dvd box lots of people know how big one is.

I wouldn't get that ic also because it'll be a pain in the @ss trying to route piping for that unless you get it modded.

My 86 Turbo Coupe had the Ford Motorsport/Spearco front mount intercooler setup on it. Nice intercoolers. They have been in the business for a long time. That is a HUGE FMIC though. I'd go almost half that size.

There IS room to run the piping on the passenger side. it is not nec. to run both hot and cold sides thru the driver side. Running the piping thru the passenger side of the car was actually quite easy, prolly easier than the driver side.

as for spearco quality, spearco cores are some of the best. They dont charge an arm and a leg b/c they dont have "greddy" or "blitz" written on them, but they make some of the better ic's available.

This is my FMIC.

28x9.5x3 Front Mount Intercooler

The shop had some trouble fitting it, and it looks bad with the original bumper. I'm thinking on buying a Bomex BK to help looks.

mine is a pretty good size and will fill in the mouth area of your bumper. mine is 20x11x3 Silvia style FMIC. got mine from www.xs-engineering.com the core is like $435 or so and the end tanks are like $50 each.
