yea, mine is bad too, even with the clamp. im waiting for a good deal on a 2.5"-3" bolt on downpipe... much like a lot of other people.

Yeah, the HRC DP connection is pretty ghetto. I also had the crappy leak, but I pretty much fixed most of mine. I took it apart, and tried to round out both pipes as good as possible, then got a 2" exaust clamp just barely on there..It worked believe it or not, and clamped it good. The biggest problem from what i can tell, is that HRC gives you a 2.25" clamp, and our exaust pipe is slightly smaller, and when you tighten it, clamps the piping not evenly all around the pipe, causeing the pipe to "sqeeze" at the edges in a way, so you have gaps, kinda like () . Mine is just about leak free, and i cant hear any leaks at all. I've still had enough of it though, cause i can tell that stock DP is not flowing well at 13 psi. I'm tired of waiting for 2.5" pipes to come out, so I am going to buy some mandrel bends, fab it, cut it, and piece it together myself, then have it professionally welded at a welding shop out here..

I got a generic straight through muffler from a shop and took it to this exaust place. I had the guy install a fitting on the hrc dp so i could unscrew it from the rest of the exaust. and he did 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipes all the way back to the new muffler with a flex section and with both o2 sensors in there for $250. total cost for exaust ~$350 and it sounds great, and no leaks!!

I'm having a this guy who has his own shop make me a new one piece dp. He's making one for my friends RX-7 for $200. Figure one for an Eclipse cant be much more. I'd like to get it done before the Raceway Park meet on the 14th but its coming up real fast.

Mine is welded and it's a mighty good job if I say so. Don't know what it cost cause I got it all done and included in my install. My only complaint is the bolt bracket that holds the actual pipe to the frame. That must have flexed under launching and broke off once and it's coming undone again. But no leaks here.. emoji

I got mine taken care of by getting a section of 2.5" and had it welded on to the HRC pipe and then that is mandrel bent and goes under the car, eliminates the cat and runs straight back. So know from the bottom of the HRC pipe I'm running straight back now. I like the setup and it did make a good difference.

I just did another Stage II install and he has had no probs with leaks on the downpipe. I just made sure it was cut far enough up and tightened it up really good. I made sure to leave enough on the stock to have it fit in tight. I'm surprised nobody has made a downpipe yet, dosn't look like it would be too hard with the right tools.

I had mine welded on. I use to have Kamikazi headers and it came with a downpipe. I had a muffler shop cut the downpipe a little shorter and weld the HRC DP onto it. It fit really great and I've had no leaks.

I believe you should get it done on the car. You have to make sure every thing lines up. It cost me $20 to get it done on the car and only took 5 min.

I completely agree, mine sounds like a lawn mower too and I can actually feel the exhuast gas on my hand coming up through the engine bay. I'm not real thrilled about all that hot exhuast gas in my engine bay ... let alone it being sucked back in buy the filter. Anyway, I have a question for guys that had it welded. Did you cut the stock DP so that they just barely came together, or did you leave a bunch on there up inside the HRC end and then have it welded. I'm thinking for exhuast flow it would be better to cut it down farther and then have it welded, but I'm not sure it matters ..... anybody?

i had my HRC/stock downpipe thing brazed. the guy who did it didn't exactly do such a great job. it still leaks a little, but it's a lot better than before. i didn't want to do anything nuts, because i've been waiting for the ERT downpipe. however, by now i'm pretty convinced that it'll never actually be released, so i'm looking to get some mandrel bends and some custom exhaust work done.

I just left a bunch up in there techboy. I wish I would of had it cut to match though. Your idea on flow is probably right. I probably gona have a custom 2.5 to 3 inch made soon. Seems like no one wants to make us a full down pipe right now.
