Im doing the fuel system install on a 97 with a SFMU. Basically from what I undrstand theres a fuel return line coming from the FPR and fuel feed line to it and from it to the fuel rail, right? So I just remove the FPR, put an inline fuel filter in its place, and then just hook up the fuel return line to the one thats already there? Does that sound right or am I totally off? Thanks.

you can use your stock fuel filter. the regulator is fairly close to the tank. the return line goes from the regulator back to the tank. you are replacing the stock regulator with the sfmu. so you must run the return line from the sfmu back to the tank. the sfmu hooks into the test port on the fuel rail(left side of the block looking at it head on). you have to remove the schrader valve to hook it up. you also get a vacuum signal for the sfmu as well. let me know if i can help more.

So if i totally remove the FPR, I can just use the existing return line that is already there? Like run a return line back from the SFMU and then connect it to the return line already in place? Is the fuel filter an inline filter which is already on the return line? The fuel feed line doesnt run through the FPR? Do I actally have to touch the fuel feed line?

the reason you want to run a return line from the engine bay to the tank is so that you have easy access to to sfmu for tuning. so, remove stock fpr or whole fuel filter assembly, contec supply line with the fuel supply hardline. then attach sfmu to test port on the fuel rail, and run a return line back to the tank from the sfmu. I made a write up about how to set it up. Dino should have it up on the site somewhere.
