#48414, "8-Injector building manifold etc help(long)"

ok so i got everything now. went over to a friend who does welding for RRE 4g63 and some fuel crap. so we placed my spare fuel rail up on the lower spare manifold and either 1&2 or 3&4 runner (port) does not line up with the fuel rail.. well it's not in the middle.. so he told me he rather do a better job overall to have the injectors in the middle of each port. so he told me he 'could' extend the fuel rail just a little so every single injector will be in the middle of each port, so when it sprays it will be correct. what im wondering is, is it ok to extend the fuel rail just a little? he is a expert welder etc... also it will cost $50 more to extend it..
one last thing he told me that my accel #40 injector o-ring are a little to big/tight to fit into the efi.com guys 'bungs' which the injector goes into, so he told me i should get a smaller o-ring so it seal better and also he said its better to get a smaller o-ring because you will have to push the injector very hard into the bung and it might leak?? what do you guys think
tommorow i will bring my car over and he will lift my car up to check clearance issues if any and see whats going on before he builds it for me.
any advice is great.
thanks

I don't know about extending it. I know what you're talking about, but I just don't think it's all that important.

About the o-rings - check out mcmaster carr. They'll have the orings you need. http://www.mcmaster.com/ Just type in orings in the find box, then click on O-Rings. Mic it out and go by the size, but try to get buna-N or viton rings.

I know it doesn't line up absolutely perfectly when lining up the rail, but you can get them somewhat close. I wouldn't worry about being exactly in the middle. Remember, these runners are round, not square. In some sense, there really isn't a "middle." Moreover, the injector spray for these injectors are being activated at boost, wherein they shouldn't be held to the same placement standards as your primaries.

I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't stress out over the angle or central placement in relation to the runners for the injector bungs.

ok.. ill try lining them up again and talking with my welder guy... how fast is the airflow in the intake manifold while you go into boost? i heard from a bud its so fast it does not have time to hit the walls?
thanks

That sentiment was the same I got from Javad. I was worried about similar issues as yourself now, but received reassurances from Javad to not worry about it. Regardless of placement and angle, just get the bungs on there. I don't know precisely the air velocity, but under boost, you're getting more than enough air velocity to not concern yourself with how it's going to be affected by bung placement.

Yeah they don't line up perfectly, but no sweat. Just like jason said, it's no biggie. Everyones set up is like that with the 8 inj. AFAIK.

If you bought standard domestic injectors, they should fit fine in the bosses without new o-rings. Just oil the rings lightly prior to installing. As long as the ring is not pinched, then it will seal fine. Injector angle and position is very important for the primary injectors. They have to operate well at low engine speeds and have a great affect on driveabilty. The secondaries are not nearly as sensitive to angle and position. Just do the best you can. If it makes you think any different, some people actually point them backwards into the incoming air (on crazy hp applications).

If it helps you visualise it better, try spraying some windex or something from a squirtbottle, held next to a vacuum cleaner hose.

Better yet, build a ghettofabulous flowbench/windtunnel with duct tape and the above vacuum cleaner, and attach it to your actual manifold emoji

lol im bored. that actually sounds fun.

the injectors i got are those accel #40 (415-420cc).
i guess its ok if its not lined up in the middle, but it would not hurt to have it in the middle right? or to extend the fuel rail a little?
thanks

I would not cut the fuel rail and reweld it. I believe that it is brass coated steel. It won't weld well, but you can braze it. Just use it as is and save yourself the trouble.
