Ok guys, I am planning on buying a STAR kit soon, and I have been reading alot about the fuel issues above 7 psi. I want the STAR because of looks, cost, and also because I actually want the little bit of extra lag because I have to do alot of highway driving. Anyway, will just an in-line fuel pump and stock injectors provide enough fuel with nothing else on the kit modified? I have searched, but I can't find the answer. What in-line is the best. If I need injectors, what size? I want to keep as much of the kit as possible because it is after all a "kit". Also, I may be building the bottom end at the same time. If I go with JE 8.8s, how much does this hurt my low end? Im not always racing ya know. TIA guys!

You know the kit does come w/ an intank pump (walbro) which is sufficient up to 7-8 psi itself. You never specified what boost levels you plan to be running. You have to realize that it has a 12:1 rise rate (means at 7psi, you're supposed to be running 134+ psi in your fuel lines that are rated to handle 50psi or so) on the FMU and if you plan on running higher boost, it would probably be best to get different injectors and a different ring for the FMU so you can lower the fuel pressures. The size injector you need really depends on how much power you plan to be pushing (boost levels) unless you don't have a budget.
I've run somewhere between 7-8 psi on mine now for over 45000 miles using stock lines, walbro pump, and stock injectors with no problems. Not to say you'll have the same luck, but it's obviously possible to do.

*EDIT* I say that the pump will handle 7-8 psi, yet if you look at the fuel maps for the pump, it doesn't deliver anything at 134 psi. It still works b/c the rise rate is a little too steep (rich). I have all the gauges and everything looks OK. I've not dynoes or datalogged it, but EGT, fuel press, and O2 levels all turn out fine. *EDIT*

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure how much boost I will be running because it isn't boosted yet and I don't know how addicted I'm gonna get 7 psi might do it for me, who knows. I just wanted to know how many problems I would have upgrading in the future if I need to. How well did your kit go on btw? Thanks again!

You can run 7psi on an out-of-the-box stage 2 kit forver on a stock motor. If you're going to build it, why run 7psi? That's a waste.

Kit went on easy. Only problems I had were aligning the turbo to the DP and DP to the cat, but after a little jiggling, it all went on fine. Just make sure to allow enough time to do it so that you don't have to rush (especially if it's your first time).

Thats a pretty dangerous way of fuel tuning... lol. I'd be careful going that route. Personally, I wouldn't want to even use a FMU. It just doesn't having the tuning ability I'd want. Might hold off a little while and see how Motofool's kit works out. Looks promising, and will include a SFMU

a full point in compression is not going to make that much of a difference really if i remember right its about 4hp difference..
the difference in having a fresh motor and consistant compression and the ability to up the boost makes up the difference for me ...
