#47873, "Custom piping for 1G SMIC"

I'm planning on getting my piping done soon but I'm not sure exactly what I need to tell the place that's doing it. I know where I want it mounted and all but I'm not sure what size piping to go with or what material they'll use to make it. Also, I don't know if they'll need to make any size transitions as far as the diameter of the piping goes.

Sorry for taking over a little, but I am also very interested in doing custom piping. What did you guys specifically ask for at the muffler shops you went to? Also, how do I actually mount the 1G SMIC? Will I need to fabricate some brackets or something? Where exactly is it placed. thanks.

This is why I was hoping Metaljim or XtemeRS would reply. Metljim has a write-up around here somewhere that will answer your placement questions, but as far as piping goes, I guess we'll have to wait for these guys to reply.

Mounting the things is kinda a pain in the ass. You need to jack up the front of the car, and take out the plastic wheel well lining around the drivers side front wheel. Thats easy. Then I just kinda put the intercooler behind the bumper to see where my inlet and outlet were going to be, and what I could attach the thing to. After that, I went to Menards and bought a bunch of little bendable brackets, a few 3" long ones, and some 90 degree brackets. The long ones proved to be much more useful. Buy some short self tapping metal screws to attach the brackets to the I/C and the various mounting points on the car. I couldn't mount my I/C like metaljim, his frame must be a little different that mine, because no amount of cutting would have made mine fit, so I canted the I/C back about 15 degrees or so. This puts the inlet and outlet at a reasonable place for piping. I will probably peice together my own piping, using Mandral bends from JcWhitney, and some silicone couplers. Shouldn't be too hard.

I used part of HRC's stage 1 piping, that curved section right out from the turbo, then connected that to some custom bent 2" exaust piping, going to the IC, then from the IC outlet. At about the valvcover area, i then used HRC's 2.5" piping section that leads to the TB. HRC's piping from the stage one kit goes from 2.25 to 2.5 at the valvecover area to the TB. Here are some pics of my setup(i have posted these several times now emoji )

Here i got a pic of the IC from the front. I used metal roof flashing to make air deflectors to help direct air into the IC to make it more efficient. There are pieces on each side, and on top of the IC.

Not the prettiest piping ever, but it gets the job done. It looks 100 times better now that its all painted red emoji

So you actually cut parts from the Hahn piping and connected them to a custom inlet pipe? And the outlet pipe is connected to the HRC part that fits to the TB? Hmmm...

Sorry I don't have the piping built yet. It'll be a bunch o mandrel bends welded togetther to make 3 sections. It should look a bit different then XtremeRS' piping, cause I want to use the lower pipe as the inlet and the upper one as the outlet. I have the welder. I've been practicing with it and at this point I'm pretty confident that I can actually weld the pipes. I should be ordering the pipes/couplers/clamps soon. I'll definately post pics as soon as I build it.

That's what I was planning on doing too. I wanted the lower as the inlet and upper as the outlet. I'm not sure which would be best for air flow.

i used part of HRC's non-intercooled thing too. had some press-bent 2" aluminized piping made, and later painted it black so it wouldn't look like crap. if any of you guys are willing to wait, this summer i'll be selling my 1G SMIC and all of the custom piping and mounting stuff once i get my FMIC from HRC.

i wound up using pacesetter exhaust piping from a 95 neon. had all kinds of bends in it. i also moved (had moved) the inlet pipe from the back side od the IC to the side.
