#47336, "Predict Detonation?"

Interesting thing i was reading today in my Chiltons guide book for our car. While i was reading the engine spec for the 420A, i noticed it said, we have a "knock sensor". To my suprise, i thought they only have that on the GS-T/GSX or other turbocharged cars, but ours have one? Would that mean it would be a big factor and a big help if we non-turbo DSM'rs get a MSD 6 BTM Racing Ignition that helps advance/retard timing automatically to prevent detonation? I want to hear info on this setup and how the knock sensor work with MSD if any.

yeah, we have a knock sensor. some people say that we don't, but we do. i'm pretty sure it's the thing that screws into the back of the block. it's pretty hard to miss (well, that's if you have the head off and you're just poking around...) but i don't think that it's really used much at all. my definition of a good knock sensor would be some type of thing that would "listen" for detonation and retard ignition by X degrees. would be a nice way to save some piston ring landings.

That's what the stock ECU does with the knock sensor signal. But it has to perform it within certain specs/parameters.
