#47133, "Installing Custom Turbo Right Now"

Woke up this morning, started at 9am, packed up at 7pm. After 5 trips to home depot, hard labor of cutting turbo pipes, a broken oil pressure sensor, drilling, cutting, bending, torquing, and months of planning, i finally got off my ass and I did what i needed to do today.

Haven't done the test drive yet. I put JB Weld on the oil drain fitting to make sure its sealed (have to wait till it cures, you know?).

I have an appointment at an exhaust shop tomorrow for them to make me a downpipe. Then the final testing and adjustments are done. Wish me luck.

I wish you a smooth break-in and happy driving.

When you go to the exhaust shop for a DP have them WELD on your oil drain fitting. JB Weld doesn't work well. I've tried it.

Ok, heres it is...
T3 turbo, deltagate wastegate, hks ssqv bov, walbro 255lph fuel pump, vortech fuel pressure riser, ngk plugs, mobil one synthetic

Install was successful, everything went smooth except for the exhaust manifold gasket, cant get it anywhere were i live except from factory. It was too worn and leaked, because of that i couldnt boost.

Jb weld worked really good. I only used it for a leak free seal, the hole i drilled was real snug and tight.

Well, one more thing happened. And also found out my oil pressure sensor snapped in two, who knows how long that happened.

The oil line i got from turbo performance was faulty. It leaked like crazy, i didnt realize it until i drove it to work. Driving back from work, i found out that it was worse then I thought, I leaked ALL the oil out. MY ENGINE LOCKED UP. Had to call a friend to tow it back.

Its crazy a mess up from one little company can turn a completly working engine into a completly handicapped one.

And now my turbo install update has turned into a cry for help. Any ideas on what kind of damage i did to my engine? Any place were I can pick up an engine for cheap? Or any good deals on built engines, etc.

I wish you a smooth break-in and happy driving.

Oh man. That sucks. It's gonna be a rod or main bearing. Hopefully you didn't rip into the crank too badly. Bearings aren't all that expensive. Take it apart and check it out.

Man that sucks! Hope it didn't screw your block up too much....and yes berings can be replaced without tearing into the engine too much, but...if your in there....mmmm forged pistons would be recomended!

You can buy a shortblock complete with forged rods and pistons for like 1700 bucks... if you got the cash, do that, and you'll be set for some real nice power in the future. You won't have to worry about your potentially damaged block.

where can i get the shortblock with forged pistons and rods for 1700? The best estimate i got so far is 1790 with intake and exhaust manifold but no forged internals.

quick question,

so would an oil pressure gauge help avoid this kind of damage for myself and others? you never know when one of those lines could give out, and i plan on some serious summer driving after my install.

yes on the oil pressure gauge question.

You would see the oil pressure go down and know there's a problem and shut off the engine before damage happens if you are closely monitoring gauges.

Built 420a motor at www.vtengines.com/shortmitsu.htm all the way at the bottom. Their price is 1645. Looks pretty decent to me. Reputable company too.

The "idoit" light would work, but mine snapped in half. So the car thought it had oil all the time, im not sure but i would think that the car would shut off by itself if it knew it had no oil as a safety precaution.

I'm currently looking into a 2.2l stroker by howell with a head by RPM auto service. Anybody heard of them, do they do good stuff? Here's their website

http://www.rpmextreme.com/headsmitsubishi.html

PS. I'll post some pics later this week, stay tuned.

>>>im not sure but i would think that the car would shut off by itself if it knew it had no oil as a safety precaution.<<<

Nope, it'll run until it locks up. The stock pressure sensor just controls the oil light to let you know you have no oil. It's up to you to shut it down. And to whoever asked. Yes an oil gauge helps immensely. When you are about a quart low it'll read around 50psi cruising so you can tell a little. Once it gets down to like only having one quart left it'll cruise at around 20psi oil pressure. I wish I didn't know this but I unfortuneatly found out. emoji

Finally got pictures up

Cold Air? Sort of, its my aftermarket short ram.

Oil pressure sensor, snapped in half.

Ever want to see the inside of a oil pressure sensor?

Weird thing is I have no idea how a oil pressure sensor would snap like that. Cars going be collecting dust for a while until i find enough for a new engine.

That looks pretty good. Except for that coolant return line. Is it rubber? It looks dangerously close to the turbine.

It is rubber, but it was only there to get my car going to home depot (again) for a braided heater line. The guy who had the turbo before me glued the 90 degree angle fitting to that position which really sucks.
