#45870, "Wastegate problem"

Sup guys... I konw this is a stupid problem.
But here it is.

I got a Mitsubishi small 16G turbo with wastegate. But I don't konw where I connect the nipple of the wastegate?

Question also, for BOV, is it using the vacuum method and wastegate use pressure??? (for triggering the value to open)

Thanks.
Gil

Also, if my wastegate is set to 10PSI..and I don't want to change it's setting (by opening it up and change the spring and etc) can I just get a boostcontroller and connect it to the wastegate and lower the PSI to 5PSI?
Thanks.

the wastegate spring is ur set lowest psi. a boost controller can only allow for more psi, no less

the wastegate nipple gets hooked up to a vacuum source off the manifold... and you cant lower the psi with a boost controller, only higher it.

Cool...thanks.
So you saying, boost controlling only for HIGHER boost use?
So if my wastegate is 10PSI, and I will modify it to handle 5PSI, then that means I don't need to get a boost controller until I want more boost???

..hum..the reason I ask this questions is because my friend got a GST eclipse and he is saying that I NEED A BOOST CONTROLLER. This is because a wastegate is useless. (not good for low boost like 5PSI)

He said that a wastegate act very badly coz it's all depending of weather or some shit... and he is like.... the PSI won't be stable aand stuff....I am lost...any suggestion!

Thanks for any ideas or help!!!

i'm not sure what your friend is talking about. the wastegate controls the max boost you will see, except of course with spiking and all that other happy stuff. a boost controller will only allow you to run higher boost by "blowing off" some of the psi that the wastegate sees. in order to lower your boost pressure you would have to change the spring or modify the wastegate. i am unsure of how to do this seeing as i am not turbo yet. but many other guys on here will be able to help. hope this helps.

i see you still have a lot to learn... first of all, stop talking to your friend because, from the this post and many others i've seen you post, he doesnt know what he's talking about. now a boost controller will only allow u to run more boost the the spring setting of the wastegate.... for example my wategate is set for 5psi, so i use a manual boost controller to increase the boost to about 8psi. im not sure about the wastegate on the small 16g, but you will either have to get a different psi rated spring or modify the wastegate arm to achieve the desired level of boost.

Here's a writeup on how to modify your wastegate actuator to work at a lower boost pressure. http://www.denverspeed.com/wastegates.html
