#45593, "NEW TO THE TURBO THING"

Ok so here we go....until now I have only been driving my 95 esi AT, Now I have a '95 esi MT. I have freshly rebuilt the motor and it is getting dropped in today. I have in my posesion a smic off the 90 talon, injectors and bov. I just had turbo ported and the housing was polished (Free) it's the 14b. Now here comes the dilema. Yesterday I recieved a t3 off an 84 T-bird Turbo coupe ($60 for turbo, downpipe that I will use t get to the muffler shop, injectors out of it and the ajustable regulator). I have already dismantled my stock FPR and I have a back up in case. I plan on getting just a regular FMU but I' not sure which one I should use. I want to run the maximum amount of boost without breaking anything(I am using stock compression pistons). I am going to break in the motor without the boost on it or I'll be to tempted to get on it. I also have yet to order my manifold from motofool but am now unsure if I'm using th 14b or the T3 and the day to order is nearing. So for the questions: Which Turbo? Can I use the injectors out of either(I have 8 450cc injectors from 1st gen turbos and 4 330cc from the auto 1st gen and the unknown ones out of the t-bird)? Can I use the adjustable FPR off the tbird (that has no vac line so I suppose it will only slow down the fuel)? What ratio FPR should I use for maximum boost? Any other advice would be very helpful. Also should I break it in gently? It says the break in period is only 500 mi.

the injectors for the 4g63 will not work so you will need to get ones for our car.
as far as the fpr from the t-bird, well I don't know anything about those. so I can't help you there. But you do want an fpr or fmu that will see vacuum/boost and will adjust fuel accordingly.
max boost with a t3 turbo with stock internals should be 7-8psi if you want to be safe.
for that kind of set up (t03 and stock injectors at 7psi) you would probably want to use a 12:1 pressure disk for the FMU.
i would break in the car for 500 to 1000 miles.

HOpe that helped some.

hehe how many motors do u blow up ^^??

some times u can start a mtoor and go out and run it and it'll work fine alot of the time it wont seat the rings if u start it up and go run it hard as hell..

i learned the hard way take it easy for while let the rings seat, let everyghing stay lubricated, and break in.

i recomend a oil change at 500miles and another at 1500miles, (just use mineral oil for these changes its cheaper...)

then after that switch over to a synthetic oil if u choose.

id say use whichever turbo u want just remember if u use a 14b u have to tay with the mitsubishi turbos..

the t3's are a little more wide spread then the mitsubishi turbos..

i can make u a manifold for either so its not a big problem..

for the injectors out of the box the 1st gen injectors wont work if u wire some resitors inline they will however..

as for the thunderbird FPR i doubt it will work but i could be wrong as i dont know about those..

if u want to keep your stock pistons in god condition stay under 9psi and your good to go..

if u use the 14b turbo u need to modify the waste gate otherwise your gonna be boosting about 9psi right off the bat(not 100% sure what stock pressure is..)

and same with the t3 make sure u know what size waste gate u got or spring tension for what # of boost its set at..

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

For the injectors, I would just go to the junkyard and get a dsm resistor pack to wire in if you can find one easily. I would think that would be a little easier than wiring each resistor yourself.

Thats a great help. I was hoping to use the injectors from the T-bird cause I've heard the resistance is the same. As for only running 9psi thats bad news for me. I was hoping to get at least 15 out of it but then again I dont want to break anything. Anyone know where the resistor pack is? I have a 90 TSI at my boys house that I can tear apart. Also what injector O-rings can I use? The 450cc ones just flop around mine dont let them slide in.
