We all know the only difference between a stage I and a stage II is the stupid SMIC - an 800 dollar price difference I might add. What I want to know is: Can the piping that comes with the Stage I be cut or manipulated at all to fit a 30 dollar (eBay) 2G IC from a turbo model without too much trouble?? Has anyone done this and do you have pics. that you could post. Just trying to find the most economical way to boost my car, just like everyone els

Word is that the 1g SMICs are better than the 2g ones. Thats what I'm using anyway - I got it for $50. As far as the piping, I've seen people reuse some of the piping - in particular the piping attached to the TB, but you have to shelf(or sell or junk) the rest and custom fit some pipes to get it plumbed in. Even with the custom piping - it can still be much cheaper than $800.

Get a 1g. I had both side by side and the 1g is about twice as thick. I got my 1g for $15 from a yard and had a muffler shop make piping for another $20. I did a little bit of welding and I haven't had a prob since. Goto the post in the anouncements and find the KC meet. OZ_GS has his site with meet pics and you can look at my engine bay and get a general feel for how the piping goes. Mail me with questions.

Erik - thanks a lot. I'll definately take a look at OZ_GS web site, I've been there before. And as long as you don't mind, I'll shoot my questions your direction. I'm thinking I'm just gonna get the Stage I and upgrade it to a Stage II myself.

yeah no prob. Actually, I used a hole-saw to cut through the plastic and it helps support the IC in there real well. I only had to make one piece of galvanized steel w/ 2 holes drilled and used a pre-tapped hole with a bolt and the mounting tabs on the IC to keep it from moving. If you have a buddy who can weld, go get some JCWhitney pipe in 2.25" and I can show you exactly how the piping goes and have them weld it up for a the BOV flange ect...

Erik - I won't be getting my turbo kit until probably the last month in June, I'm working on internal stuff now, but I'll touch base with you around then. Probably add you to my buddy list or something. I teach tech. ed. (Shop class) for a living, so I'm pretty good at fabricating my own stuff, so getting some JC Whitney piping and making it fit shouldn't be tough. I love'd to exactly what you did. Later.

He is from Allentown, Chris, I will try and type up that list for the rebuild parts that I had to gather tonight. Also if you plan on running 15 PSI might I suggest a Starion FMIC they run about 150. And its a FMIC hah. For all the rubber cupplings you may go to home depot the one on Lehigh Street. They have some there I was checking out. My one friend tells me that there is a mandrel bender somewhere in the area. I think we need to find him... hah, I will ask him as soon as I can.

I live in Allentown PA - as mentioned ^^^, but I have traveled to NJ a few times in the last month b/c I graduated from TCNJ and have a bunch of friends still out in the area. So yeah, it could have easily been me. I usually take I78 to Rt 31 down through Flemington and Pennington and all that.
George - I definately interested in that list so I can start gathering. I looks like my buddy is going to rent me a bay in his garage and we going to pull the motor over the winter and get all this done. I'm still planning on strapping on the turbo this June-ish.
